Work up an appetite while enjoying the many outdoor pursuits available nearby, from scenic hikes and bike rides to fishing, water sports and wildlife spotting: Loch Ken, 9 miles away, is a popular destination. Threave Estate, run by National Trust for Scotland, lies on the edge of the town where the gardens and house are well worth a visit, as is Threave Castle.
Set on a working farm just a short distance from the owner’s farmhouse, this cosy cottage offers both convenience and privacy. It combines soft floral touches and antique-style furnishings to create a warm and homely atmosphere. Spend relaxed evenings in the lounge, where a coal-effect electric fire adds a welcoming glow to nights spent watching TV. A comfortable sofa bed in this room also provides additional sleeping space for two guests. The adjoining kitchen/diner is spacious and well-equipped.
