Spend time with family or friends and connect with nature at this dog-friendly cottage sleeping up to six adults and one child. It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys time outdoors, with the beautiful Solway close just under 3 miles away, and endless opportunities for hill walking, golf, water sports, loch fishing and biking within easy reach. The pretty town of Gatehouse of Fleet is 5 miles away, where you’ll find a selection of shops, excellent pubs and great places to eat, while Kirkcudbright (known as ‘the artists’ town') and Castle Douglas are both within 19 miles. At Kirroughtree (10 miles), you can join the renowned 7stanes mountain bike trails, and there are scenic walks at Carstramon Wood (8 miles) – especially in spring, when the bluebells are spectacular. Explore the historic monuments which are scattered around the nearby landscape, or head to the fascinating Gem Rock Museum in Creetown (5 miles).

Tastefully modernised to retain its original character, the stone cottage is set in a picturesque location with peaceful rural views. Drive up the short track and follow the path to the front door (three steps up). Kick off your walking boots and head into the welcoming lounge, where there’s an open fire for additional warmth on a cool evening. There’s plenty of comfortable seating, and a choice of a TV, DVD player and CD player to keep you entertained. The kitchen/diner is another charming space, with a farmhouse-style table for six and all the cooking equipment you’ll need to create delicious holiday meals – including a microwave and a dishwasher. Also on the ground floor, there’s a pretty twin bedroom and a family bathroom with a shower over the bath. The two remaining bedrooms are upstairs – a king-size and a family room with a versatile choice of full-size bunk beds and an additional single. Completing the first floor is a shower room.

Sit in the garden and watch the birds and wildlife while drinking in the gorgeous views. You might want to get the BBQ going, or light the fire pit and toast marshmallows as the stars come out in the dark skies. A small burn (stream) at the back of the cottage, reached via a gate with a secure latch, is another picturesque feature. You’ll also have secure parking in a large, fenced parking area.

The cottage is in a lovely location with a fenced in garden ideal for dogs to run around in. There are some other cottages dotted around but none in view of the cottage which has great views of the beautiful scenery and is lovely and the area is lovely and quiet at night. Would be ideal for stargazing on a clear night. There is a drive up to the gaRead moretes around the cottage through a large field which had a bull wandering around in it so be aware if you walk through the field and maybe keep your dog on the lead when youre in there! The cottage itself was very nice, lots of space, a big kitchen with everything you need and great for bird watching on the feeders outside. Bathrooms were good with a nice shower. The beds were comfortable, possibly some feather pillows/duvets which I can sometimes be allergic to but was fine on this occasion. Plenty of space in the bedrooms too. The living area was cosy and comfortable. The cottage comes with some specific rules about keeping all dogs downstairs and off the furniture which was fine for us but might be more challenging with other dogs so be aware. Overall the place was clean, comfortable and peaceful, a great place to relax and with a sense of being cut off from the rest of the world, while still being a short drive away from amenities, shops etc. It a beautiful location too, great scenery and views. The cottage is a bit tired (just) in a few places but overall well equipped, albeit a strange kitchen layout. Lovely location where we saw every bit of wildlife going either in the garden or the adjacent field. Whilst we love the solitude a DVD player would have been nice for evening entertainment. Our border collie absolutely loved it and despite Read morethe minor moans we would definitely make a return visit, the area is simply beautiful Hide
