Moving inland, spend time exploring Dalbeattie Forest (3 miles), home to a 7stanes mountain biking track that’s sure to get the blood pumping, along with pretty trails through the forest, with the chance to spot resident wildlife. After your adventure, the town of Dalbeattie (3.5 miles) invites you for a restful afternoon of browsing local shops and popping into a pub or restaurant.

The kitchen, tucked into one corner, is well equipped to feed the whole group, while a separate utility cupboard offers a dedicated space for laundry facilities. Off the main living area, you’ll find three restful bedrooms, each as appealing as the last, with soft bedding and plenty of space to unpack. The master king-size bedroom is accompanied by an en-suite shower room. The two remaining twin bedrooms are served by the family bathroom, which offers the option of a bath or shower.
Take your morning coffee out onto the elevated decking to watch the early sun reflect off the small lochan. With a bench and bistro set, there’s plenty of space out here to savour a peaceful morning.
