This charming coastal retreat sits in a prime position on the hillside overlooking the seaside village of Rockcliffe. Sleeping six guests, it’s the ideal base for families and friends looking to explore this picturesque corner of Dumfries and Galloway. Rockcliffe has a delightful, sandy beach with shallow water for bathing. Much of the land around Rockcliffe is owned by National Trust for Scotland, and there are some lovely walks you can enjoy with fabulous sea views and opportunities for spotting rare wildlife. At low tide, you can head across to Rough Island, which is home to a fascinating bird sanctuary. The nearby village of Kippford (4 miles) has a handful of cafes and a friendly pub or heading inland you’ll soon reach the vibrant town of Castle Douglas (12 miles), known as the region’s foodie capital. Other nearby days out include RSPB Mersehead (6 miles) and Threave Garden and Nature Reserve (14 miles).

The welcoming holiday home is decorated in a contemporary style, with pretty soft furnishings and artwork adorning the walls. Large windows frame spectacular views across the estuary and bathe the rooms in natural light. On the ground floor you’ll find an inviting lounge with a magnificent picture window framing far-reaching coastal views. Unwind here on the comfortable seating, reading your book or watching the TV. The separate kitchen/diner also enjoys spectacular views and has all the equipment needed for a successful, self-catering getaway. Share family mealtimes at the large, wooden dining table, before retiring to the relaxed seating area to chat about your day over a glass of wine. In summer months, throw open the patio doors to let a gentle sea breeze flow through the property. Rounding off the ground floor is an attractive twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Upstairs, two further bedrooms await – a double and a twin – both with plush linens and plenty of storage for all your holiday attire. The family bathroom completes the first floor.

Immediately outside the cottage is a suntrap patio with outdoor furniture – the ideal spot for an al fresco supper on a balmy evening. Beyond the patio is a colourful hillside garden, with a lawn, wide variety of coastal plants, rocky paths, and alternative seating areas. The cottage has private parking.

Our second visit to this special house, and we hope more to come. The situation couldn't be bettered......Beautiful views from every window...,well equipped...roomy,but still homely....We were blessed with better weather this year, and we were able to walk down to the sea and swim....We know the area well, having lived in Castle Douglas some years agoRead more......Our party went from the ages of 6years up to 81, and there was something for us all.......Highly recommend.
