Active holidays and restful breaks alike can be enjoyed at this South West Scotland retreat: a detached, superbly finished country cottage with plenty of space for family, friends to spread out. The property enjoys a coastal position just 3 miles from Southerness Beach, where a wide stretch of sandy shoreline, rock pools and mudflats creates the perfect setting for picnics, seaside walks and paddling in the shallows. Southerness Golf Club (3 miles) offers the chance to enjoy Scotland’s favourite pastime, with its 18-hole championship course set right by the sea. For nature lovers, a walk along the coastline towards Mares Braids Waterfall (5 miles) reveals barnacle geese, natterjack toads and swirling flocks of starlings as you pass through the RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve (4 miles). A little further afield, Bainloch Deer Park (6.5 miles) provides even more wildlife spotting opportunities, including the chance to see roe deer.

Renovated to a high standard, this two-storey home features a fresh, contemporary design throughout. On the ground floor, a large living room welcomes you in. This is a wonderfully spacious area for relaxing together. Sofas and bean bags are arranged around a Scandi-style wood burner and a TV and DVD player, creating a cosy setting for evenings in. From here, move into the fully fitted kitchen, equipped with everything you need, and continue into the generous dining room, ideally positioned beside patio doors. Also on this floor is the first of three bedrooms – a bright twin – along with a modern wet room featuring a fully tiled walk-in shower. Upstairs, two additional lounge areas offer even more space to unwind. A cosy snug with a loveseat and TV provides a quiet retreat, while a second sitting room offers further seating and another TV – perfect for larger groups. Two bedrooms complete this floor: a master king-size with its own en-suite shower room, and a second king-size bedroom served by a family bathroom.

On sunny days, make the most of the large, enclosed garden to the rear of the property. This outdoor space features a generous lawn and a patio area with outdoor furniture and a hot tub. Private parking is available, along with a secure, lockable storage unit for bikes and outdoor equipment.

Great location and a lovely house, but it would benefit from a deep clean and some tlc. However, we would still recommend staying here.

What a wonderful cottage, place, and host. We simply cannot recommend Criffel Glen highly enough. Set within a working farm you truly do get a sense of being away from the rat race. If the 7 goats who potter around the place in their little gang don't bring a smile to your face then nothing will. Emily, who owns the cottage, is a wonderful hostRead more who makes you feel extremely welcome. Although don't let her talk you into climbing the hill (Criffel) after which the cottage is named. It is hard work!!!! Only kidding. The views from the top make every step worthwhile. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything you could want in a home from home. Beautiful place. We'll be back. Hide

Beautiful country cottage with stunning views of Solway Firth. Family had an amazing experience and feeding the animals was an added bonus. We also went on a deer safari nearby which was fantastic. Highly recommend this cottage and this part of the country.
