This inviting first-floor apartment overlooking the Solway Firth is a wonderful base for exploring Scotland’s beautiful south-west coastline. Sleeping six guests across three bedrooms, the dog-friendly home is perfect for families or small groups of friends. It’s in the quiet hamlet of Portling, a peaceful base for a holiday, and just 1 mile from Sandyhills Beach (1 mile). Colvend (1.5 miles) has a village shop and café, while the lively sailing village of Kippford (4 miles) is a lovely spot to watch boats glide by over a relaxed meal or drink. For golf, head to the local club (0.5 miles) or the Southerness Championship Links Course (7 miles) for a more challenging round.

Large windows and a charming Juliet balcony frame uninterrupted sea views – it’s a wonderful spot to unwind after fun-filled days out. For sleeping, you’ll have two doubles – one of which has its own en-suite shower room – plus a twin room that’s perfect for children. A family bathroom with a shower over the bath completes the layout.

Outside, you’ll have access to a private enclosed garden where you can soak up the fresh coastal air. Beautiful, peaceful location. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped with a lovely garden to sit in. I'd go back there.

Stayed four nights in February 2026; me, my two adult daughters and 11 and 13 year-old grandchildren. Portling view accommodated all of us with ease. It is well furnished and comfortable and the kitchen equipped with everything we needed (my daughters enjoy cooking and are quite demanding in terms of utensils). The house is pleasantly situated, oneRead more of a group of three and forms part of a larger house. There are walks along the coast, easily reached from the front door, and plenty of activities to choose from in the surrounding area, including self-led and group off-road cycling in various locations and lots of different road cycling option. We spent a day at the Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken enjoying the climbing wall, zip line and laser tag . Tesco delivers and if you need something urgently, there's a convenience store a couple of miles away in Colvend. We had a great time! Hide

Very comfortable and cosy accommodation. The central heating was programmed to come on several times a day. Very well equipped kitchen. Comfortable bedrooms. Beautiful scenery and excellent walks in the area. Discover Scotland staff were most helpful when booking. The staff in the local shop in Colvend were also very helpful.
