Step back in time in this characterful converted castle, a place steeped in tradition with a story to tell, perfect for hosting nine guests on an unforgettable getaway. This ancient stone castle can be found on the 800-acre Barscobe Estate, with woodlands, waterfalls and Barscobe Loch all on-site for your exploration. Go fishing for trout on the loch or step out at night to discover the mystical woodlands and the dark, starry skies above them. Around 3.5 miles away, discover New Galloway on the edge of Galloway Forest Park. This picturesque village offers a place to park up and begin your Galloway excursion, perhaps following a looping walking or cycling route to Loch Clatteringshaws (9.5 miles), spotting red deer and otters in the River Dee as you go. For water sports, make your way to the Galloway Activity Centre (6 miles) on Loch Ken, where you’ll find plenty of adrenaline-pumping adventure opportunities out on the water.

The property’s thick stone walls, original spiral staircase and characterful beamed ceilings add to the overall charm and intrigue of this ancient abode. Despite being maintained with many traditional features, it’s clear to see that modern creature comforts have been installed, meaning you’ll want for nothing throughout your stay. Venture inside to first find a handy utility room with space to store outdoor gear, coats and boots, before making your way into the kitchen. This dine-in space pairs functionality with style and comfort, complete with a central island for cooking and a large dining table that invites every guest to sit and raise a glass. From here, take the winding stone staircase up to the first floor to find the great hall. This grand space is impressively spacious and furnished for comfort, complete with plenty of seating options, an open fire and a TV/DVD. Continue up the staircase to reach the second floor, where two bedrooms reside – the master bedroom with a king-size bed and a bunk bedroom opposite. This floor is served by two bathrooms: an en-suite attached to the king-size room and a family bathroom. Continuing up to the final floor, discover an additional twin and single bedroom, both commanding incredible views to wake up to each morning. Make your way back through the kitchen to reach the fifth and final bedroom. Offering a welcome dose of privacy, this annexe-style room is a king-size with its own en-suite shower room, perfect for couples.

Open-aspect scenery surrounds this marvellous property, and there are 800 acres of grounds to explore at your leisure. A dedicated garden area has been laid out with patio furniture for your use, allowing you to make the most of sunny afternoons when conditions are fine.
