Ideally located on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, just outside the town of Gatehouse of Fleet, this fantastic stone cottage provides an enviable escape for couples and their pets. The cottage sits just behind the cricket ground, in the vicinity of Cally Wood and close to the tranquil Cally Gardens and Cally Lake (both less than 0.5 miles away). Start exploring Galloway with a trip to Carstramon Wood (3.5 miles) or a hike up Darngarroch Hill (5.5 miles), or follow National Cycle Route 7 by bike, spotting wild goats and rare red deer within the forest (26 miles).

The aged façade of this stone-built cottage is brimming with storybook appeal, so pause on arrival to take in the scenic surroundings. Step inside the open-plan living space, where mullioned windows flood the room with light and a wood burner adds warmth from a cosy corner. Soft seating and a drop-leaf dining table create inviting spots to relax in the evenings in front of the Smart TV, while the adjacent kitchen is designed for effortless meal prep. Completing the ground floor is a handy cloakroom with a WC. Take the narrow cottage stairs up to the first floor to find the bedroom, a cosy double ready to welcome you for a restful night’s sleep. An en-suite bathroom completes the space.

Lovely location, well appointed house, great views. Easy walking trails with nice views of the lake and Cally Palace in addition to the bonus of being able to eat hay cricket matches from the window. The downside is the bathroom as a disabled person i may well have got into the bath but the local fire brigade would be required to get me out! Also wRead moreith the bathroom having a sloping roof the washing facilities for a six footer like mussel banging your head on the ceiling is inevitable. Finally, before we arrived we had no idea that the waste bins had to be manoeuvred down a track for emptying. Being disabled the bins remain unemptied as indeed the previous occupants had decided to do. Hide

Cross Cottage is a delightful residence and we are happy to recommend it as a holiday venue. The cottage is situated just off the access drive to Cally Palace and overlooks the local cricket ground. The surrounding woodlands and estate grounds offer much scope for walking and some excellent walks are suggested, with maps and directions, in the infoRead morermation folder in the cottage. The town of Gatehouse of Fleet is easily accessed either walking through the woods or by car along the local roads. The cottage is very comfortable and well kitted out and the garden is perfect to enjoy the sunshine. The rooms are nicely sized so that two people can readily move about and store belongings without any inconvenience. We very much appreciated the little notes around the cottage as welcome reminders as to how to ensure everything around the cottage ran smoothly and we did not consider these at all intrusive and smiled at the poetry. Gatehouse is a lovely town and is well worth exploring. Located somewhat centrally in Dumfries and Galloway, it allowed easy access to trips out in all directions and the variety of places to visit and vistas in coastlines, hills and mountains, woodlands and fieldscapes all made for wonderful days out. We shall certainly be returning in the coming months. Thank you. Hide
