This charming 18th century farmhouse in rural Galloway is perfectly positioned mid-county for the many activities and sights offered by the area.
For the heartier among us there are the Galloway Hills (part of the Southern Uplands) including the Merrick, Corserine and the Cairnsmores which can be explored by foot or in part on bicycle: walks along the Solway Coast at Kippford and Rockcliffe or further west: sailing and water sports on Loch Ken (Galloway Activity Centre), designated cycling routes along the old railway lines and at Dalbeattie and Newton Stewart. There are lovely beaches all along the Solway Coast.
For those less hardy the local town of Castle Douglas is a renowned foodie haven with several delicious cafes, deli's, butchers and an award winning chip shop and a well stocked health food shop. For more day to day shopping, three supermarkets, Post Office, a very good hardware store, chemists and a medical centre.
For those looking for culture or who enjoy visiting stately homes, Dumfries House is about an hour north, there is also the very impressive Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill which belongs to the Duke of Bucchleuch, or ruined Threave or Caerlaverock Castles and various ruined local abbeys - Sweetheart, Dundrennan and Glenuce.
The farmhouse sits within a working farm and estate and as such is surrounded by cattle and sheep. It is a very rural location and you will very likely encounter the farmer on his daily rounds. The wildlife and birdlife ca be spectacular, but the climate is very varied and can also be dramatic: recently hot and dry summers but damp and chilly winters.
Airds of Kells is accessed by a small utility/drying room for hanging and storing outdoor clothes and boots, with a handy WC. The attached kitchen is bright and well decorate with an island, a Rayburn (small Aga) and a casual dining area. Beyond the kitchen is a hallway with a door leading out to the patio, or stairs up to the first floor master bedroom, single bedroom with fold-out extra bed and bathroom with bath and separate shower. There is an extensive first floor bookshelf for any bookworms. Beyond the hallway downstairs is the main sitting room with its massive fireplace and wood burner perfect for watching TV, the stone flagged corridor leads to the south wing. The south wing contains a large dining room with wood burner and is perfect for celebratory dinners, upstairs are two bedrooms - one twin bedroom and one double bedroom with a shared bathroom with bath, sing and WC.
