Set right by the shoreline, with uninterrupted views across the Urr Estuary, this homely coastal retreat sets you up perfectly for a memorable group getaway. It sleeps eight guests across four bedrooms, making it a great choice for families, with space for two dogs too. The property is less than 50 metres from a shell beach, which kids will love exploring, and the lively village of Kippford is just 1 mile away. Here, you’ll find two friendly pubs and a bustling sailing scene, complete with yacht moorings and regular regattas. Walkers can join Jubilee Path or the Rough Firth Road to explore scenic routes towards Rockcliffe (5 miles), while cyclists can try out the 7Stanes trails in Dalbeattie Forest (1 mile). A short drive opens up sandy beaches, fishing spots, golf courses including Southerness (12 miles), and the wild landscapes of Galloway Forest Park (26.5 miles).

Inside, the house is arranged over two floors, with generous living space for everyone to spread out. The lounge stretches the full depth of the house, providing a cosy spot to gather around the open fire. There’s also a separate dining room for sociable meals. The kitchen centres around a traditional oil-fired AGA, so you can cook up a storm, and there’s a handy larder for extra storage. On the first floor, the sleeping arrangements are ideal for families, with three twin rooms and a bunk bedroom (with low headroom on the top bunk). You’ll have a Jack and Jill en-suite bathroom and a family bathroom featuring both a bath and a separate shower. A separate WC and a cot room add extra practicality, making it easy to accommodate younger guests.

There’s ample space for relaxing outside too, with an enclosed garden and patio where everyone can enjoy the fresh coastal air safely. You can dine outdoors and watch as children and dogs play. Beyond this, there’s access to a more natural wild garden area with lovely views towards Rough Island and the surrounding estuary. You’ll also have private parking for two cars.

We had such a lovely time! We went swimming and canoeing when the tide was in - so easy as the sea is just over the lane at the bottom of the garden. Rocklea is a house which has been 'lived in' rather than over-modernised or refurbished - but nonetheless very comfortable. It is ideal for a big family plus baby and small dog.

A very well equipped, spacious and comfortable house in a quiet location. It has close access to the path to Rockcliffe. It is within walking distance to two hotels serving food and drink. The house is situated next to a beach. However, this is a tidal estuary and consequently, the water can be quite far out on the mud flats.

Rocklea is a very comfortable holiday home in a very magical place. We thoroughly enjoyed our week. Kitchen cleanliness could do with more effort and there's no welcome pack in place.

We had a brilliant time! Very quiet location, good swimming and walking. The house is not modern but very comfortable with everything there we needed.

Having rented Rocklea several times now, once again we enjoyed our stay there Lovely location, very peaceful, and good food at the nearby Mariner, Anchor and Clonyard hotels. It was a little cold in the house during the day, as the weather wasn't as sunny as sometimes, so we used the coal fire for heating. Can certainly recommend this house.

The location of rocklea is amazing, we did need to wipe the kitchen cupboard shelves before we could use them, and not being able to open the second bedroom window was a nuisance. I appreciate the age of the property, but I do think the mould on the upstsars windows should be addressed. However, the overall cleanliness of the cottage was good andRead more we will book to stay again. Hide
