Barton-under-Needwood (4 miles) has additional shops and good takeaways, along with Barton Marina (5 miles) for waterside walks, independent shopping, boat-watching, food and drink and local boat hire. The National Forest provides hundreds of miles of trails and plenty of wildlife-watching opportunities. Visit Jackson’s Bank (4 miles), particularly lovely when its bluebells flower in spring, or head to Lichfield (8.5 miles) to admire England’s only medieval cathedral with three spires. The National Memorial Arboretum (7.5 miles) offers 150 acres of woodland and gardens to explore and hosts regular events. Golfers also have a choice of two good courses within 11 miles.
