With two double bedrooms, this delightful getaway would suit one or two couples or a small family, and is located in Great Broughton, 3 miles from the Georgian town of Cockermouth. Known as the gateway to the Solway Coast and the Western Lake District, Cockermouth offers a mix of independent shops, a variety of places to eat and drink, and a lovely arts scene. The coast at picturesque Maryport is just 4 miles away, where you’ll find an aquarium, a maritime museum and the Senhouse Roman Museum. Pack a picnic and hope for a spectacular sunset – best viewed from the promenade. In the opposite direction, there are mountain bike trails and treetop adventures in Whinlatter Forest (9.5 miles) and fabulous hikes and climbs in the Lake District, with Loweswater and Buttermere both within 15 miles.
Take two steps up and go through the front door, straight into the delightful lounge/diner. Hang coats by the door and admire the attractive colours, rugged beams and mix of lighting. The tiled fireplace is a focal point, inset with a charming electric Everhot heater, and the soft seating has throws and cushions for extra comfort while you enjoy a cosy evening in, perhaps with a movie on the Smart TV. The kitchen is compact but well designed, and equipped with everything you’ll need to create hearty breakfasts and delicious dinners – including a microwave. When you’re ready to sit down, you can simply fold out the dining table that’s tucked to one side of the lounge. At bedtime, head upstairs to find the two welcoming bedrooms, each of which has a hanging rail for storage and a stylish bed, continuing the old-meets-new styling. A pretty yet practical shower room completes this appealing hideaway.
The cottage has no designated outside space, but does provide private, off-street parking for one car.
