This peaceful Scottish retreat is a lovely choice for families, friends and couples looking for a restful rural escape, with fresh air and big skies aplenty. It’s set on a working farm just 0.5 miles from Lumsden, where you’ll find a village shop, a garage, a children’s playpark and a Sculpture Trail. Whisky fans can follow the Speyside Whisky Trail (joinable 23 miles away), and visit distilleries at Cabrach (12.5 miles), Glendronach (21.5 miles) and Glen Garioch (27.5 miles), all providing a taste of Scotland’s long malt-making heritage. History lovers can join the Castle Trail to visit some of the region's most striking castles. The National Trust’s Leith Hall (8 miles), with its gardens, tea room and walking routes, makes for a fab day out, while Alford (9.5 miles) has three excellent museums, Alford Valley Railway, cafés, shops and your nearest supermarket. In the other direction, check out Huntly (13 miles), which has a castle, shops, cafés, two supermarkets, a shortbread factory and an ice cream shop.

Everything is arranged on one level, with no steps inside or out, making the cottage fully accessible. The open-plan living area has dual aspect windows, a high ceiling and wooden beams – a lovely space to spend time with its far-reaching views over local hills. There’s comfortable seating, a Smart TV, a wood burner and a dining table for six. In one corner there’s a kitchen where you can cook up tasty meals. All three bedrooms have their own en-suite shower rooms – one super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom with a fully accessible wet room, one king-size zip-and-link bedroom with an en-suite shower room, and one double bedroom with an extra-large en-suite shower room. Underfloor heating and individual room thermostats help keep things cosy through the seasons.

Outside, glass doors open onto a paved patio with outdoor furniture, and an adjoining lawn, so you can watch the farm's Aberdeen Angus cattle and Vendeen sheep grazing in the surrounding fields. There is a shared BBQ available for alfresco dining. You’ll also have access to a shared external drying/storage room with a tumble dryer, space for outdoor clothing, bikes, fishing gear or sports equipment. The accommodation boasts eco-conscious touches including a private spring water supply treated with a UV filter, water-saving flush devices, rainwater butts and a wastewater aeration plant. There is private parking available for up to three cars.
