Positioned in the tranquil village of Papcastle, this inviting retreat is the ideal base for couples, friends or small families looking to discover the Lake District and Solway Coast. Just 1 mile away, the Georgian town of Cockermouth offers plenty of options for eating and drinking, plus a buzzy arts scene and some great local shops. Explore the National Trust’s Wordsworth House and Garden (1 mile), or book a tour of the family-owned Jennings Brewery, founded in 1828 (also 1 mile). With incredible fell and mountain scenery all around, the opportunities for hiking, climbing, biking and water sports are endless. Loweswater, Crummockwater and Buttermere are all within 12 miles, and Whinlatter Forest Park – where there’s an aerial assault course and adventure-playground trail – is 9 miles away. Maryport, a pretty harbour town at the southern end of the Solway Coast National Landscape, can be reached within 7 miles.

Continuing up the stairs will take you to the first-floor shower room, and then the two restful and beautifully styled bedrooms, a king-size and a twin which boasts zip-and-link beds for versatility.
