An inviting rural retreat, this Gloucestershire property boasts incredible views across the landscape towards the River Severn. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway enjoys a peaceful position on the edge of the Forest of Dean. Within 5.5 miles are opportunities for walking and cycling, as well as popular hotspots like Cannop Cycle Centre, Mallards Pike Lake, and Go Ape. Puzzlewood (8 miles) is great and used as the filming location for various famous fantasy films, while Symonds Yat Rock is just 10 miles away and equally beautiful. Newnham-on-Severn (1.8 miles) is one of the Forest of Dean's most charming riverside villages. Stroll through its historic high street, browse the local art gallery, or check out its welcoming pubs and restaurants. For everyday essentials, Cinderford (2 miles) offers supermarkets, shops and a variety of pubs and services. Gloucester and its legendary cathedral are just 13 miles away.

Follow the impressive private driveway and pull into the parking bay. A few steps take you down to the entrance, which opens straight into the kitchen. It is a modern, well-planned space with an electric oven and hob, and plenty of worktop room for unpacking local finds or getting supper underway. From here, the layout flows into the open-plan lounge/diner. The dining table sits just where you want it, close to the kitchen for easy serving, before the room opens out into a generous sitting area with a Smart TV, a wood burner and ample space to unwind. There is a quieter nook in the corner, positioned by the double doors leading out to the enclosed courtyard. Upstairs, find two sizeable bedrooms. On the right, the king-size room has a dressing table, Velux windows and its own en-suite bathroom with a bath. To the left, the twin room offers two single beds, hanging space and drawers, along with its own en-suite shower room with a large shower and WC.

The outdoor space is outstanding, with several seating areas to choose from. The first is an L-shaped bench with a table and an egg chair; the second is a set of sun loungers; and finally, a bistro-style dining table and chairs offer al fresco dining. Lap up those rolling Gloucester views while you recline with a bottle of fizz or your morning latte. Finishing the home is the private parking for three cars.

Stay here!!! We had the fortune and pleasure of staying at woodpecker lodge for my Mom's 50th birthday and we could not have picked a better place to have stayed or better hosts to have stayed with. The view you see in the photos truly cannot do justice to how special of a location this is. You are able to see over the valley and the river severn fRead moreor miles, it truly is a breathtaking view that made our stay feel magical. This alone is reason to book, you will not be able to stay in your own private lodge with a view like that anywhere else. Our hosts, Gilly and Simon, were beyond perfect! We were greeted warmly on arrival and given a tour of the property and their grounds, including the sheep! Their field is closed off and was perfect for our dog to run around and play, we think he enjoyed our time away more than anybody. Gilly and Simon had prepared birthday treats for my Mom as well as a basket full of goodies for our arrival which went a long way in making us feel welcome and show their superb hospitality. This included THE BEST bread and homemade jam!!! Mom had a brownie box which she was reluctant to share it was so good!! Gilly had left us facemasks and makeup towels which again, were special extra touches we really appreciated. Gilly and Simon were attentive hosts, who were a delight so sit and chat with. We love making new friends but I'm sure if you wanted a private and secluded get away they would respect this also. The lodge itself is modern yet cosy, with a log burning fire and 2 spacious and well decorated bedrooms. There is a private entrance to the lodge, with its own seating area for an alfresco breakfast or a glass of the birthday rose that had been put on ice for our arrival. We spent most of our time outside on the veranda due to the amazing views and weather. We were never short of things to do, with a swing out front, a selection of boardgames for rainy days and a library of books to baton down with. If we did want to venture out, we were 5 minutes drive away from the river and walking distance from beautiful forest walks. There's also a few restaurants and takeaways nearby, with a lovely fish and chip shop in Littledean village itself. We also had the option of a BBQ for the sunny weather which was very kind. We had a brilliant time staying at woodpecker lodge and we will be back again. Thank you <3 Hide
