Set amid lush greenery on the eastern edge of the Lake District National Park, and set within the grounds of Greystoke Castle and is on the top floor of the once stable block to the Castle that has been converted into just a few apartments. Half a mile away, Greystoke village is home to a small shop, friendly pub and heated open-air swimming pool; there are more shops in Penrith (5 miles) and Keswick (13 miles). Beyond both towns, the Lakeland landscape is a paradise for walkers and wildlife lovers. Enjoy a cruise along Ullswater (6.5 miles), tackle Helvellyn’s thrilling Striding Edge from Glenridding (11 miles), or wind your way through woodland to the awe-inspiring Aira Force near Watermillock (6.5 miles). Lowther Castle (10.5 miles) is a favourite for family days out thanks to its dramatic ruins, gardens and adventure playground.

Park and pause to admire the far-reaching views as you head towards the striking stone building. Step through a shared main entrance, ascend a flight of steps, and the front door to your private abode is on the right. Self-catering supplies can be taken straight through to the social hub of your holiday, a charming lounge/diner with, at one end, an L-shaped sofa arranged before a Smart TV and wood burner. When it’s time to eat, the dining suite serves up verdant garden views through a stunning arched window. There’s a similar window feature in the kitchen, which has contemporary cabinets and is complemented by a utility room and linen closet. As your day draws to an end, two peaceful bedrooms are located just off the main corridor – a grandly-styled king-size and a twin room, which share use of a chic family bathroom.

Guests are free to stroll around the castle grounds, which are rich in wildlife and include ancient oaks, a serene lake, beautiful landscaping and a café. The castle hosts live music, theatre and comedy events – check the website for details.
