Enjoying an elevated location in Ogmore-by-Sea, Salt and Timber is a thoughtfully restored holiday home created by its artist owner with an emphasis on beauty, restfulness, and an emotional connection to space. Sea views are enjoyed from much of the property and natural inspiration is all around. Just a short stroll downhill, the beach boasts expansive golden sands and rock pools – a perfect setting for leisurely strolls, picnics and outdoor fun. Follow the Wales Coast Path upriver to the ruins of Ogmore Castle where the path crosses the river via ancient stepping stones. Nearby, the Merthyr Mawr Nature Reserve is home to sand dunes, an expansive beach and a woodland sauna hidden amongst the trees. Head east along the coastal path and you are greeted by stunning cliff top walks, the beautiful Dunraven bay and miles of empty beaches and headlands. The area is great for hikes or walks, with plenty of pubs dotted around and some excellent surfing beaches too. Farther afield, the Gower peninsula, Brecon Beacons, National Botanic Garden of Wales and City of Cardiff are all within an hours drive.
Comprising a series of distinct spaces, each with its own mood and character, Salt and Timber promises a memorable stay; its natural materials, carefully chosen colours and collections of curios creating a sense of warmth and vitality throughout. Step inside this spectacular home to find the family bathroom to your right, inspired by a local sea cave, it resembles an undersea treasure trove with a bath area crafted entirely from locally collected driftwood. Continue on, and to your left, the kitchen/diner is a bright space with views stretching across the sea, making every meal feel special. A sumptuous red velvet couch and open fire create a welcoming focal point in the sitting room. The space offering a cosy environment to gather with family and friends whatever the weather. The conservatory offers a tranquil space to sip your morning coffee and start your day and is a wonderful spot to enjoy a glass of wine as you watch the sun set over the sea. When it’s time for bed or you wish to retreat for some time alone, there are three tranquil and diverse spaces to choose from. The 'Treehouse Room' is a twin room featuring a raw timber mezzanine with a beautiful driftwood banister accessed via a paddle staircase. The ground floor provides a single bed while the mezzanine has a small double. Both cosy and spacious, this room has been designed to evoke calm and natural restfulness. The Skyloft is a self-contained studio apartment on the top floor with a double bed, en-suite bathroom, kitchenette and lounge area. Carefully sourced objects from around the world, layered lighting, natural materials, and soft colours give this space a sense of expansiveness that echoes its far-reaching views across the sea. The second bedroom on the ground floor is a calm space offering ultimate flexibility with a zip-and-link bed that can be arranged as either two singles or zipped together into a super king-size double on request.
For a breath of salty sea air, step into the front garden with mature flowerbeds and abundant rose bushes. To reach the shoreline, simply head along the pavement and after around 150 metres, you’ll see a path that leads down to where the River Ogmore meets the sea. Permit parking for one car is available, with additional on-street parking nearby.
