Midway between the delightful towns of Alnwick (7.5 miles) and Wooler (9 miles) and between Northumberland’s National Park and Heritage Coast, this listed stone cottage is the perfect base, with a gastropub just metres away. In addition to Alnwick, with its magnificent Castle, The Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei, Wooler ‘the Gateway to the Cheviots’, Chillingham Castle (4.9 miles), Cragside (11 miles) and Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum (12.5 miles), are regular favourites. The Heritage Coast (10 miles), stretches from Holy Island to Amble, with Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster, picturesque Low Newton-by-the-Sea and Alnmouth of special note. Inland and to the west, Northumberland National Park begins within 5.5 miles at Ingram, the first of the three most noted valleys, with a range of much-loved, totally uncrowded walking routes into the Cheviot Hills. There are also great walks directly from Eglingham, giving access to wonderful ‘far horizons’.
Before stepping into this luxury retreat, take a moment to appreciate its stone-built exterior, setting the scene for a stay where historic charm combines with modern comforts. Head inside through the French doors to the elegant kitchen/diner. This well-appointed room boasts all the space and amenities needed for cooking up some Northumberland feasts – including marble-topped surfaces for prepping picnics for the day ahead. Enjoy each meal at the formal dining table nearby or alfresco in the garden. Completing the kitchen/diner is a handy utility room for storing outdoor gear and taking care of holiday laundry. After dinner, move through to the tastefully furnished lounge. This pristine room hints at the cottage’s heritage with its beamed ceiling and exposed stone. Here, sink into the soft seating, turn on the Smart TV, and enjoy the glow of the wood burner. At the end of each day away, retire upstairs to the beautiful king-size bedroom. With a vaulted ceiling and more exposed beams, this is a characterful space to get a good night's sleep between your days out. Serving the bedroom and completing the home is an en-suite bathroom with a shower over the bath.
Outside, the enchanting garden space is one of the many highlights of the cottage. Enclosed by stone walls and mature hedges, this idyllic setting is perfect for al fresco morning coffees and BBQs. Relax on the furnished patio before venturing deeper into the landscaped gardens to discover more tranquil seating areas, as well as a fire pit perfect for marshmallow toasting. Garden steps lead down to Eglingham Burn, where a hidden terrace invites evening tipples in the last of the sunshine and with the sounds of nature as your backdrop. You’ll also benefit from private parking for one car.
