Keen walkers will find an abundance of routes within easy reach; climb one of the many fells in the area, and you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views. Lake Windermere (4 miles) has scenic walks along the water’s edge, as well as opportunities to take to the water on paddle boards or canoes. Leave your walking boots and coats in the hallway, which leads to the downstairs bathroom, living room, and practical kitchen. Prepare delicious meals and eat together at the dining table set underneath a beamed ceiling in the lounge/diner. Once you have refuelled, you can get comfortable on the sofas and fire up the wood burner, which offers a lovely, cosy atmosphere during the evenings. Beyond this is a study space, ideal for those who need to get on with some work while away, or those wishing to get stuck into a good book. Climbing the stairs, the three bedrooms await. Pick from a king, a twin, and a single room, which all have fabulous views and beams adorning the ceilings. A shower room and a separate WC complete the interior.

Enjoyable stay for 4 nights at this cottage. Great location to visit Lake Windermere and to head north to other lakes. The quality of the beds and bedding was excellent. The kitchen was well equipped. Debatable whether any car would fit into the parking space at the front, and on a busy road during the day but was dead quiet overnight. 3 Smithy Cottages in Crook is a lovely spacious cottage, with good access to the Lakes. It faces a busy main road, but that is amply compensated for by a stunning view to the rear. Parking is a bit problematic, as only one car can be parked at the front, and that is a tight squeeze. The other is parked on a narrow lane below the cottage at the rRead moreear and is accessed by steps that are very slippery when wet. There are quite a lot of steps throughout the garden, but all have railings. Four of us had a lovely holiday there, in spite of indifferent weather. Holiday Cottages were prompt and helpful when we contacted them. Hide
