Whitby
Whitby is a popular choice for visitors all year round. It is well known for its long sandy beach and delicious seafood. For a different day out, why not climb the famous 199 steps to reach the ruins of Whitby Abbey. It's said to have been the inspiration for Bram Stokers Count Dracula, and its gothic splendour is the perfect place from which to take in some truly stunning views over the town.
Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch. There's always something happening throughout the town, and festivals and fairs are held throughout the year including Whitby Goth Festival, Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta.

Was really looking forward to this holiday and was let down by the state it was in . All cups, plates and knives forks and spoons were dirty been put back into the cupboards without being washed. The bath you couldn't use and the shower was so small you couldn't wash properly. Plus nowhere did it say it was a 3 storey house, not good for the elderlRead morey and disabled Hide

A great place to stayand we didnt have any trouble with parking! A quirky, old-style place, but equipped with modern conveniences too. Perfect location too. Would definitely look to stay here again.

We had a wonderful weeks stay here. We've been to Whitby many times and stayed in loads of different cottages and Hope house is by far the best we've been in and we hope to stay here again in the future. We managed to get parked in front of the property all week which was a huge bonus. The house is decorated in a way that makes it feel so homely.Read more The heating is great, we werent expecting it to hold the heat to well but it sure did! The location is perfect not too far from the front but just far enough away for a peaceful sleep. Beautiful throughout! A very comfortable stay enjoyed by our little family! Thank you! Hide

Lovely cottage in good location. We were lucky enough to get parking right outside too which was a real bonus. Having the second toilet outside was great so didn't have to go right up to the attic each time we needed it.

I was very upset to walk in and see a horrible old peeling vinyl couch which to be frank is ready for the bin or should have at least covers put on, sorry I would expect a decent couch to sit on and think its a liberty expecting people to be happy with that. The state of the couch overshadowed the rest of the house which is a shame. The rest of tRead morehe house is nice and you can see the effort to restore character but this is pointless if you cant spend much time in the lounge because of the shabby dingy overall look which is just depressing and felt insulting to paying guests . Also the king size bed, which is beautiful, then it requires the correct size fitted sheets and mattress cover not ones that are too small and constantly move when trying to sleep. The house is rented for five but there wasnt five matching glasses so we ended up using a mish mash of wine, tumbler and gin glasses if we wanted drinks at the same time. Apart from the glasses , no scissors and no cafetire, the latter I had to buy myself for our stay, the kitchen was well enough equipped The instruction booklet talked about a hand set for the tv, we found this couldnt get it to work so I thought Id check the battery just to be covered in white powder from ancient old leaked batteries. Had it not been for the above issues this would have been a lovely property and I am so disappointed. I would not recommend this property and wouldnt return I have taken photos of the couch and will upload if I can. Its such a shame that the couch and lounge lets what would be a lovely character property down so badly Hide

We enjoyed staying in this cosy cottage, a very convenient walking distance to musuems, shops and cafes/restaurants and down into the town centre, harbour and to the North Beach. The kitchen, although small, is well-equipped for cooking and self-catering.

Location is brilliant as it's in walking distance to Whitby town centre and, if you're lucky, parking is free outside the property. The property was clean and tidy and has many original features however the main living room is very dark and dingy. There was plenty of hot water with good pressure and the central heating worked well. Thankfully thereRead more is a microwave as the cooker has seen better days. The outside yard, described as a place to get some fresh air, is actually a 10ft by 5ft walled in space to access the outside toilet, washing machine and back gate. No one in their right mind would consider sitting out there! The master bedroom is over full with period furniture to the point that the door doesn't open properly which is very poor as it is at the top of a very steep stairway and small landing. The beddng is worn, old and in need of replacing or repair. The bathroom is very nice and the cast iron bath is quite comfy however the towels are old, discoloured and threadbare. Hide
