Walk over to the amazing cliffs at Hermaness, home to over 100,000 seabirds, and spectacular scenery overlooking Muckle Flugga and the Out Stack, Scotland’s most northerly point. The visitors centre is open daily between April and August. The area also offers some of the most wonderful beaches with golden sands. The bathroom has a hand-held shower over bath and WC, and a heated towel rail. When your evening is done retire to the tastefully decorated bedroom with double bed.

Stepping back outside there is a lovely little gravelled courtyard with table and seating to enjoy a refreshment or al fresco dining while watching the beautiful evening sunsets. Outside chairs can be found in the shed. There is off-road parking available next to the courtyard wall.

My second stay at Marrats Houll and I hope to be back again. Great croft conversion with excellent facilities in a magical location with otters running across the grass below the croft and feeding in the bay. Only slight downside is the low doors but I largely managed to avoid banging my head on them!

Fabulous location, comfortable cottage even though some doors are a bit low for us over 6 feet. However the cottage really felt like home after a day away exploring. Well equipped.

The earlier restoration and more recent refurbishment have made Marrats Houl the perfect place to stay on Unst, whilst retaining the essential character of the original croft house. The walk from the door round the coast to the kirk and beyond was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the peace and tranquillity that Shetland offers along with the occasiRead moreonal otter sighting. I have stayed in a number of properties on Shetland / Unst and Marrats definitely ranks amongst the best. Hide

We had a lovely week at Marrats Houl. The cottage is cosy, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The tranquil and peaceful location was perfect for us.
