  • Historic 14th-century castle with original features including stained-glass windows
  • Set on extensive grounds with miles of beautiful river walks
  • The castle has two salmon & trout fishing beats along the River Deveron
Property code: OC-89020

A much-loved area for fishing, this beautiful area is famous for the River Deveron and its salmon and trout (it holds the record for the heaviest fly-caught salmon in the UK). The castle sits on 450 acres with two salmon fishing beats (permits that can be arranged with the owner) - a great location for fishermen. Friends or families can explore the miles of walks along the riverbanks and everything the area has to offer. It’s just a 13-mile drive to the coast to access the many beaches and the famous ice creams of Cullen & Portsoy, so don’t miss out on this! Take a tour of GlenDronach Distillery, 5.5 miles away, tasting some of their sherry-matured whiskies, and pick up a bottle of your favourite.

Kinnairdy Castle is a tower house with parts dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The living areas are homely and cosy but at the same time, boast many of the original features including the stained-glass windows and vaulted ceiling in the dining room, giving it a real castle dining experience. The entrance is via the side door that leads into the kitchen. The kitchen has everything required to cook up a good meal and is a great place to gather for breakfast and chat about the day ahead. There is a small lounge area on the ground floor with a Smart TV which then leads onto the dining room. Host a dinner party for family and friends and enjoy time together around the dining table, and light up the wood burner on those cooler winter nights. There is a WC and utility area next to the stairwell. Take the stairs to the first floor, where you will find the shower room and three beautifully decorated bedrooms: the master bedroom super-king-size, a king-size and a double. The main lounge is accessed by a few steps from the first floor and is in the original tower part of the castle, a great place to read, relax, and unwind, with another wood burner to keep you cosy on colder evenings. On the second floor, you will find a twin bedroom and a bathroom with a beautiful Victorian-style bath.

Outside, there is a large courtyard and garden area with seating and a BBQ, with lots of grassed areas for the children to play.

We loved the castle a beautiful location and our children adored the outdoors. The welcome basket was lovely, and Jim the groundsman was friendly and full of great local tips.

The castle and its surroundings are really stunning! The kitchen was well-equipped and all bedding/towels were provided. The interiors were nicely decorated and felt very cosy. We stayed in February, but it was well-heated and the lounges and dining room had fireplaces. A great place to stay for a group holiday!

Wonderful accommodation in own grounds, in this beautiful, spacious part of Scotland. Although so quiet, it is not far to drive to coast, hills, towns and restaurants.
