If you’re keen to slow down and soak up Cornwall’s south-coast charm, this detached cottage is for you. It’s in the heart of Polruan, making it a lovely holiday base for couples, small families and dog owners keen to explore the coast and river scenery. Wander narrow streets to discover two welcoming pubs, two cafes, a village shop and a post office, all surrounded by lush countryside and sparkling sea views. Take the passenger ferry (150 metres) for the 0.5-mile river crossing to Fowey. Browse independent shops, pubs and waterfront restaurants, and visit St Catherine’s Castle and Readymoney Cove. Further adventures await at Polperro (6 miles), Looe (10 miles), the Eden Project (9.5 miles), Carlyon Bay’s sandy beach (9.5 miles) and Charlestown Harbour (10.5 miles), famous for its harbour and tall ships. For swimmers, there are dedicated harbour swim zones nearby, including one within 150 metres of the cottage.
You’ll step inside straight into a welcoming lounge where you can curl up beside the wood burner on cooler evenings. Head on through to the kitchen/dining room, which has everything you need for preparing leisurely breakfasts and relaxed dinners, plus a dining table for sitting down to meals. Tucked away at the rear of the property is a small utility area with a washing machine and tumble dryer. When it’s time to turn in for the night, head up to two inviting bedrooms comprising a king-size and a twin room. A contemporary shower room with a WC completes the interior.
Outside, good weather calls for some relaxation in the pretty front garden, where you can sit with a morning coffee or evening drink while enjoying the peaceful village atmosphere. There’s garden furniture so you can dine in the fresh air. Parking is available in the public car parks 500 metres away, with charges applying. The village amenities, beach and ferry are all within walking distance, though guests should note the return route involves walking uphill through the village’s steep lanes.
