This wonderful rural retreat has Dartmoor quite literally on the doorstep. Situated at the foot of the Iron Age hillfort of White Tor with miles of walks to be enjoyed, this cottage is perfect for those looking to explore on foot or by bicycle. The property is ideally located on the Devon section of the National Cycle Network, taking visitors all the way down to Plymouth (16.5 miles). 3 miles away, the pretty town of Tavistock offers a range of shops, restaurants, a theatre, and a bustling market. Slightly further out but a great day nonetheless is the National Marine Aquarium (14 miles) - the perfect day out for all the family. Or why not try out the village pub which is just 500 metres down the road?

Enter this charming cottage that is oozing with character and move into a hallway with space to put your coats and shoes. Directly in front of you is the ground-floor shower room with WC: this is a Jack and Jill style and allows access to the ground-floor bedroom, which features a king-size bed, exposed traditional beams, a TV and a lovely cosy ambience with its original features. Move through to the hallway and into a dining room with its round, extendable dining table, some comfortable seating and a beautiful wood burner for you to settle down in front of on a chilly evening whilst watching the Smart TV. Off this room is the fabulous kitchen with an Everhot cooker, additional electric oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, washing machine, fridge and freezer - the perfect place to pack up a lunch for the day or cook up your favourite dinner. Moving upstairs via the traditional cottage staircase is the lounge, again with a wood burner, Smart TV, stunning exposed beams and lots of natural light via the windows. Bedroom two is also on this floor featuring a king-size bed, dressing table and Smart TV. Also on this floor is the twin bedroom again full of character with a super cosy feel and a TV. Next door is the main bathroom with a bath, separate shower and WC.

Outside is a fantastic, enclosed garden with some lawn and a patio with garden furniture where you can enjoy a lovely view and dine alfresco. There is private off-road parking for one car and additional roadside parking (subject to availability).

Great cottage, lots of well-furnished rooms and a sunny garden. The Peter Tavy Inn, just a couple of hundred yards, great food and dog friendly - may need to book as it's popular. A couple of good walks just out from the house. First via Mary Tavy and down the Dartmoor Way, watch out for a couple of high ladder stiles. Second Smeadon down. You can Read morejust walk on the open down with its Tors, Dartmoor ponies sheep and a couple of Shetland's, we think, or a longer circular walk on tracks and paths. Hide

Absolutely perfect facilities. Lots of thoughtful touches. Will definitely return. We would give the highest recommendation possible for Gate House Barn . Not one quibble. For those who want a characterful pub with great food the Peter Tavy Inn is a very short walk away.
