Whitsand Bay, Cornwall’s “Forgotten Corner” on the south-eastern coast, offers over three miles of stunning sand, stretching from Rame Head west to the former fishing harbour at Portwrinkle and is considered one of Cornwall’s hidden gems. The RNLI-monitored beaches are ideal for swimmers, surfers and for walkers as the coastline stretches for miles (subject to tides). Lots to explore on foot on the SW coastal path or by car – villages Cawsands/Kingsands, Mount Edgecombe Country Park, Looe (famous for filming BBC’s “Beyond Paradise”) to name just a few.

Scattered across Tregonhawke Cliff overlooking the Bay are a restricted number of timber chalets, some dating back to World War 11. Many fell into disrepair in the 1960/70s but, in recent years, have been upgraded or rebuilt, including – Driftsands.
Driftsands boasts spectacular, breathtaking, uninterrupted vistas across the Bay and the sea to the renown Eddystone Lighthouse and the horizon beyond. Two sets of bifold doors cross the length of the open plan living/dining area, making a seamless connection between the inside and out. Open the doors to the front “dining” deck with bistro table set, wicker sofa and outside kitchen with Ninja Woodfire BBQ. Or, close the doors, sit inside in comfort and watch the weather go by: there’s a log-effect gas fire to keep you warm and cosy, come rain or shine, whatever the time of year. The bedroom is to the side of the lounge, with a king-size bed, perfect for a lazy morning lie-in. Sea views from the picture window and a stable door to the side deck, with pergola, sun blinds, loungers (which convert to a full-size bed) and a raised eating area to catch the evening sun to the West or al fresco dining under the stars   To the rear is the fully equipped kitchen and the bathroom with shower over bath (double ended for ultimate relaxation) completes this luxury retreat. Take a look at the gallery to appreciate what’s on offer.
Guests have been coming to Driftsands for over 10 years giving lots of positive feedback – perfectly positioned … outdoor spaces wonderful, sitting outside reading and listening to the sound of the ocean, heaven sent … comfortable in all weathers … stunning sunsets … everything just perfect, couldn’t ask for more … very well equipped, everything you needed, spotless … peaceful, tranquillity.
Parking is provided near the top of the cliff and then a 500-metre walk to the chalet down a sloping tarmac track, which is steep in places. There are 10 steps up to the chalet. Please note - this property is not suitable for guests with restricted or limited mobility. Dogs welcome (max 2).

We loved staying at this property but unfortunately the weather was awful which meant we couldnt use the decks and outdoor seating areas as we were hoping to. Instead we used the heaters! The chalet was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The quality of everything was very good. It was a lovely place to relax . As previouRead mores reviews have mentioned the walk from the car at the top of the cliff down to the chalet is very steep, and its advisable to not bring too much luggage.it is tarmac though. We had to time our journey in between showers and only went up and down once a day. The beach is stunning and a lovely place to walk at low tide. The cafe at the top is definitely worth a mention serving lovely food at very reasonable prices. Hide

We had the most perfect long weekend at Driftsands. A stunning location, peaceful and private with beautiful views of the bay. The property was spotless and they have thought of everything you could need. The owners were quick to respond to a very minor issue getting the fire lit (Which was almost certainly us not reading the instructions correctlyRead more!) I cannot recommend this beautiful location or property enough. We are already planning when we can return! Hide

We had the most amazing week and absolutely loved the chalet. It was incredible and had everything we needed. It was super clean and comfortable, we really didn't want to leave. The views are amazing and we both miss being there! We hope to be back again one day!

The chalet is really lovely and can;t be faulted.. However, the location discription on Holiday Cottage website was lacking, it did state that there was a steep path to the chalet but did NOT state that this path was uneven and that suitable footware was needed. We receivd an email from the owner 2 days prior to the holiday advising that the patRead moreh was uneven and that heels would not be advisable. Also that a backpack would be preferable to a suitace. Wouldn't have booked this if we'd known.

Response from HolidayCottages.co.uk : Thank you for your feedback, access to the chalet is accurately described in the listing.

We suggest to give more specific directions to find the cottage both before and after parking the car. Try to reach the cottage in daylight, because is not easy to find it the first time. Use light luggage because the pedestrian street is very steep

Beautiful location. Beautiful lodge, well maintained and everything you needed and more really. Sitting out and reading while listening to the birds and the ocean was heaven sent. The only thing is to be wary if you are not too fit as the climb back to the car is quite a slog and the steps to the beach steep, however the benefit is that the beach iRead mores pristine, hardly a sole there which is worth a million. Highly recommended. Hide
