Located in an idyllic village amongst the glorious rolling countryside of Rutland, this delightful cottage provides the perfect base for exploring the many attractions of the local area. Sightseer’s will be spoilt for choice with many historic buildings which dot the landscape including the 12th century Oakham Castle, Burghley House, a truly stunning Elizabethan house and a must visit for equestrian lovers and Rockingham Castle, a magnificent castle built by William the Conqueror. The area is a mecca for wildlife lovers and walkers with a myriad of paths and tracks to navigate including of course the famous Rutland Water which offers a variety of activities including sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, boat trips, fishing, rock climbing, high ropes, abseiling, cycling and hot air ballooning.

This stylish former woodsman’s cottage has been sympathetically and lovingly renovated by its current owners mixing both old and new to provide a sophisticated and charming place in which to relax. Guests arriving will initially enter the open-plan ground floor comprising of lounge, dining area and kitchen and notice the bright and airy decor with clean lines interspersed with cosy homely touches. A wood burner in the lounge area provides both a focal point and a romantic atmosphere ensuring cosy evenings snuggled up in front of the TV or indulging in a favourite novel. The handmade bespoke dining table created from reclaimed timbers found in the cottage provides a place to enjoy any meal whether a quick bite to eat or a celebration, and the well-equipped kitchen provides everything required to cook up a storm should guests choose to dine in. The kitchen has an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge with ice compartment, coffee machine and a handy dishwasher. During the warmer months, the stable door to the garden can be opened to allow for a cooling breeze. The tactile paint palette continues upstairs with light and spacious rooms. Climbing the stairs to the first floor guests will initially find a snug area with vintage style desk and chair, perfect for a moment of quiet contemplation or relaxation. The bedroom easily accommodates the comfy king-size bed and will ensure a good night’s rest, with views over the green to the quintessential English village. Completing the accommodation is a beautiful shower room with shower and WC, benefiting from underfloor heating.

For those who enjoy spending time outdoors, the pretty garden enables guests to climb a little slate path to an upper tier, where there is a patio area with garden furniture and a fire pit/BBQ, providing opportunities for al fresco dining. You can chain your bikes up in the garden, and being enclosed the garden is perfect for pets. There is roadside parking, subject to availability.

Welcoming cosy cottage in a great location for all Rutland has to offer. Well equipped kitchen & snug sitting area around the log burner. Village pub does excellent food & has a great atmosphere. Lots of lovely walks from the door & plenty to do & see all within a short drive.

Very nice cottage that lived up to all our expectations. Very friendly host, Alex was extremley helpful. We are looking forward to returning again in the future, very lovely area and close to Rutland Water. The Bluer Ball pub literally a miutes walk down the road is superb and very welcoming with great food and generous portions,.

This is a beautiful cottage, ideal for a couple and a pooch. We arrived to a lovely welcome pack (for humans and dogs) and enough logs to keep us warm the first night. Little touches were lovely, such as spare blankets for the dog. Fully equipped kitchen. So lovely and clean. The garden was a delight too, for a glass of wine. I had a lovely two weeks stay at this beautiful cottage. It was spotlessly clean, the kitchen had everything you needed, bed very comfortable, and had a log burner. The garden was an added bonus. Neighbours were friendly and nice village pub. The owners were very helpful and informing me of local dog walks. The welcome basket was an added bonus. We really enjoyed our short stay at Smock and Dog. The cottage is perfect for a couple plus dog. It was very clean and inviting, the welcome pack was very much appreciated, including dog treats. Great location for exploring Rutland. Looking forward to staying again.

A lovely house in a great location . Lots of nice touches and overall very comfortable and clean . My only complaint was its by quite a busy road . Although a village location cars speed through and you can hear this when trying to sleep .
