Set deep into the Herefordshire countryside, the rural hamlet of Bridstow is an ideal base to explore the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. It’s a haven for walkers and cyclists where you can enjoy riverside walks along the Wye or climb the trail to Symonds Yat Rock where you can admire the valley view. The Forest of Dean is steeped in history with ancient oak woodlands, pine forests, and wildlife, and caters well to outdoor adventures. For historians, you can step back in time at Clearwell Caves or Hopewell Colliery (both 13 miles). You are also spoilt for choice with market towns to explore, as both Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are within easy reach. Ross-on-Wye (2 miles) is hailed as the birthplace of modern tourism with its 17th-century market house, and Monmouth (10.5 miles) is the birthplace of Henry V.

This spacious home is entered via the front porchway where you can leave muddy boots and coats after a day of exploring. Step into the spacious hall, before heading into the light-filled lounge which enjoys a dual aspect with patio doors onto a private terrace, and features comfortable sofas and a Smart TV. For a little peace and quiet, you can retreat to the snug where you can relax with a paperback from the library. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped, offering all you will need for your stay – an open arch leads to a utility room, which is a great place for your dog to rest. For dining, the formal dining room has seating for all, and patio doors open onto the private terrace. There is also a useful WC on the ground floor. Upstairs, guests have the choice of three generously sized bedrooms, a king-size with stunning views across the countryside and an en-suite shower room, a double with garden views, and a twin room that’s perfect for children. Completing this floor is the spacious family bathroom.

Outside, you can enjoy the open aspect garden to the rear of the house. An enclosed decked terrace area offers a great place for dining alfresco, with a table and chairs, and there is an open aspect garden with a further paved patio area showcasing a charcoal BBQ. There is also storage space for bikes and kayaks available on request  with the owner.

We had a brilliant holiday at The Acorns. The property suited our needs and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Easy access to Ross-on-Wye and excellent location for accessing local attractions in the Forest of Dean. A comfortable home in an excellent location.

A lovely house in a quiet location, yet M40 is only about a mile away, therefore good location for visiting Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire. We have stayed here twice, so far, and would come back again.

Beautiful house with everything needed for a home, plenty of space, equipment and very well kept. Perfect position for us to explore lots of places, for the younger adults to do forest biking and canoeing and the older members to go walking and visit lots of pretty towns.
