We absolutely loved our stay at Shires Barn! Greg was so accommodating with fresh milk and a high chair for our little one and we loved being able to see the horses! The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were so comfortable. We are already planning our return!

We booked this property as it states it is 5 star and has beautiful photographs. This however is not the actual case. We feel very disappointed in our experience. The property was extremely cold on arrival. Unable to get the property warm as the owners had locked the heating. Several phone calls with the owners and head office to get the heatiRead moreng unlocked. It took a full 24 hours to get the property at a comfortable temperature. We were told to use the log burner (not safe with a 1 year old toddler) and given a plug in heater that did not appear safe to use. The owners did however agree on the first night to release us from the booking and offer our money back but we had to leave that evening. We would have very much liked to have left but this was offered after 7pm on the evening of our arrival. Anyone with young children knows a 2.5 hour drive home or finding alternative accomodation when head office closed at 8pm knows that this would be a very difficult task. We were not offered anything else and were not contacted again by head office or the owners. The property has many issues. Under floor heating not functioning in upstairs bathroom. Damp visibly coming through both bedroom walls. The kitchen and bathroom and overall decor is in a poor state of repair. No appliance has been PAT tested (no labels to any items). This should be carried out yearly. The electrics have not been tested since 2018. It is legal requirement for this to be done every 5 years. This is at least 2 years overdue. We are part of the Travelchapter family and feel very let down on this occasion. Hide

A cosy comfortable place to stay with amazing views. So many cottages have very small window - not Shires Barn. Beautiful big windows looking at the sweeping view, including distant views of Manchester. Yet despite all that glass, the modern heating system kept us very warm, and the log burner was an added cosy treat. From the moment we arrived in the rain and the dark, everything was so welcoming warm and beautiful. We parked right outside the front door, the key safe was in a porch which was dry and well lit.
