From the property, guests can enjoy a short stroll to the old marble quarrying village of Ashford in the Water. Here, you’ll find plenty of places to shop, eat and relax beside the babbling River Wye. Nestled in the heart of the national park, walkers will enjoy exploring the contrasting scenery of the higher and wilder Dark Peak in the north and the gently rolling limestone dales of White Peak in the south.

Inside, an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area welcomes you into the cottage. With slate floors and walls of a warm light shade throughout, this is an inviting space to enjoy your evening meal, a game at the coffee table or a peaceful read on the sofa. The coal effect stove and exposed beam add character to this large room, while the kitchen is light and airy with everything you should need throughout your stay. Also on this floor is a cloakroom and downstairs toilet. Upstairs, the bedroom has been painted in the same inviting light airy shade, and a vaulted ceiling, pretty stained glass windows and an exposed beam add more character. Adjoining the bedroom is the shower room with shower cubicle, hand basin and toilet. Parking is by the cottage.

Outside, the private garden is bordered by the free-flowing River Wye. With an abundance of wildlife and views across the weir to the meadow beyond, this is a soothing setting for your afternoon cup of tea or evening drink.

The cottage is cosy with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was ideally situated as we wanted to cycle on the Monsal Trail. We also cycled on the Tissington Trail and the Manifold trail. The village of Ashford in the Water is lovely with great two pubs, a lovely tearoom and a shop. The town of Bakewell is just a few miles away and hasRead more excellent amenities. Hide

Ashford-in- the-Water is the friendliest, most welcoming village. 'The Bulls Head' has the best food at reasonable prices. (Governor, really helpful.) The 'Visitors' Information', had not been updated beyond 'Covid Restrictions'.! Unfortunately, both requests for help were not acted on by the owners. (Clean towels and there was an overflowing showeRead morer tray that really needed attention...) Couldn't find a washing line/airer for drying cloths and washed towels. Hide

We really loved the cosy cottage and the small garden by the river was idyllic. Clean, compact and comfortable. Well equipped kitchen. Very close to a lovely tearoom and traditional pub. Owners are close by for assistance. Would highly recommend.

Lovely, cosy cottage in a beautiful setting. Ideally-located for all manner of activities, The Smithy is a great place for couples looking to explore the Peak District. The cottage itself is well-equipped, very comfortable and a decent size for two people. There are two pubs in the village, both very good, a tea room and a shop. There are any numbeRead morer of walks from the doorstep with Bakewell a short journey by car or foot via the Monsal Trail. Host were friendly and helpful throughout. Hide

Outstanding location. Warm and cosy cottage ideal for 2. Pubs and coffee shop in village were all excellent. Many walks from doorstep. Morsel head round trip was challenging! Lovely walk across country to Bakewell about 2 miles. Owners were nearby if we needed anything but left us to our own devices.
