The small hamlet of Eye sits within the Herefordshire countryside close to the Shropshire and Welsh borders, an area that is steeped in history, within walking distance of the National Trust Berrington Hall and just 5 miles from Croft Castle. A well-trodden footpath will take you into Luston (1.5 miles) where you can enjoy food at the local pub. Nearby is the vibrant market town of Leominster (5 miles) renowned for its local antique and curiosity shops, and a short drive leads you to the cathedral city of Hereford. Just over the border is the market town of Ludlow (9 miles) with its medieval castle and its bustling farmers’ market and food-centre bursting with local produce. Further afield is The Elan Valley, Offa’s Dyke, and The Black Mountains.

Take some time to enjoy the views before you step down into a courtyard, landscaped with reclaimed wood and seasonal planting along with the cedar clad exterior which blends well into the surroundings. Step inside the hallway and enjoy the simple artwork of the local market towns and places of interest. The accommodation offers open-plan living within the original shell of a farm building, you can relax with friends in the cosy lounge in front of the wood burner. For dining, the round table and chairs are perfect for a hearty supper of local produce whilst you enjoy the views. The kitchen area will test the best of chefs, cool and contemporary with an induction hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher, and an island where you can keep the chef amongst you company. There is a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. When the day is done you will find the two bedrooms, a king-size with TV and another king-size enjoying countryside views. There is a bathroom with bath, separate walk in rain-water shower and WC. For additional storage there is also a cupboard in the hallway.

Outside the barn has been cleverly landscaped, to the rear you can enjoy uninterrupted views from the wood fired hot tub or whilst you sit and dine. To the front is a courtyard with seating. There is ample off-road parking and bike storage available.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hen House. Everything, from the beds and bedding, to the lovely smell on the towels, to the kitchen set up and the outdoor areas, including hot tub under the stars, was top notch. The property is set on farmland with lovely views and wildlife. We watched the local farmer work the field and the local pheasant puff uRead morep his feathers! We struggled with the wood-fired hot tub but Heather was on hand to help us via message. The surrounding area is lovely, lots of wonderful walks, with Ludlow a particular highlight. Hide

We initially planned for a short weekend break but then decided we'd stay the whole work as we could work remotely from there. The owner, was superhelpful and even ran a WiFi test for us ahead of our stay. The house itself is absolutely beautiful and has everything you need provided. We loved everything about the cottage. We liked it so much that we booked it for January again. My mum will be visiting from South Africa for Christmas, so I thought we would show her a beautiful place to stay. The cottage is warm and cozy and it was lovely to wake up to the sounds of cows and sheep in the distance. Much better than waking up to ciRead morety noise. The Hen House was immaculate, and well equipped every detail to make the stay perfect was thought of. Even the hot tub was ready to go, all we had to do was light up the logs! A wonderful stay with our children. The location is absolutely beautiful with lots of space and so peaceful even with young children!! We would recommend this property wholeheartedly. Modern and well furnished, it is also very accessible. The owner left a number of welcome treats and provided the ingredients to make pizza & use the pizza oven. It is also well situated for visits to most local attractions.

Beautiful place to stay really comfortable and great location with 2 NT places nearby, a great local pub and only a few mins drive to Ludlow. We loved the hot tub and didnt know you could get wood fired ones with jets and now really want one !

A really nice place to visit with excellent views. The hot tub takes a bit of time to heat up but once you are in it, it is extremely relaxing in a stunning location. There are lots of lovely places nearby that are easy to visit and are fun for all ages. Loved the local wildlife including one family of swifts that came to see us. The Hen House is amazing! Brilliantly located, 15 mins drive from Ludlow, 20 minute walk to the local pub (a nice one) or 30 mins to your handy local National Trust property.
