Set against an idyllic backdrop of undulating Peak District hills, this handsome country cottage offers a wonderful base for holidaymaking couples, groups of friends, or relatives eager to explore all that Derbyshire has to offer. The property 1 mile from the village of Ashford-in-the-Water, which boasts two traditional country pubs, a village shop, and beautiful riverside picnic spots along the majestic River Wye. Plenty of footpaths lead directly from the property through stunning countryside scenery, including a gentle almost private footpath straight to Little Longstone, from where you can pick up the path to The Monsal Head or join the Monsal Trail (1 mile), a well-trodden pathway leading to Monsal Dale (3 miles) and its incredible viaduct. Follow the trail onwards to Chee Dale (5 miles), where pretty stepping stones offer a magical destination for a summer’s afternoon. While in the area, be sure to visit Bakewell (2.5 miles), an old English market town filled with heritage architecture and winding streets, well known for its delicious sweet treat, the Bakewell Pudding. Alternatively, meander through the shops and cafes of Bakewell, home to a weekly Monday market and the renowned Bakewell Pudding. Its twin, spa-town, Buxton, is only 20 minutes away and offers a lively arts scene, including the opera house.

Rich tones and modern colour combinations have been used throughout this renovated cottage, naturally complementing the stone-flagged flooring and original stonework to create a welcoming retreat. Enter the property to find a king size bedroom and the downstairs bathroom, ideal for those with restricted mobility. This accessible wet room-style bathroom features a versatile Jack and Jill layout with access from both the bedroom and the hallway. The bedroom, much like the other two in the property, has been lovingly designed with soft linens and warm tones, creating an extremely restful night’s sleep. Continue along the hall to the open-plan living space, where the lounge, kitchen, and dining areas flow together as one. Underfloor heating throughout the ground floor ensures warmth on colder days, while the wood burner in the corner creates an ambient glow on cooler evenings. Rustle up something tasty in the well-equipped kitchen, gather at the dining table, then retire to the L-shaped sofa with the Smart TV switched on. Heading upstairs, you’ll find the two remaining bedrooms. Each as appealing as the one downstairs, these king-size and double bedrooms both feature their own en-suite and delightful décor.

As well as drawing natural light into the lounge area, French doors lead directly into the garden, enhancing your stay throughout the summer. The spacious, enclosed patio area includes outdoor seating and a BBQ for al fresco afternoons. An outhouse provides laundry facilities and off-road parking for two cars adds further convenience. The cottage is very welcoming with plenty of space and an attractive patio/small garden. It is a barn conversion and is furnished in the modern style so don't expect carpets and lots of soft furnishings. The three bathrooms were very useful. Downstairs is well designed for people who are less mobile. Upstairs can't be accessed if you cannot manage Read moresteep stairs. The location is great for exploring the Peak District. We had a good holiday and would be happy to stay here again. Hide

My family visited the last week in April and this holiday home was perfect for our needs. Having mobility problems Im always on the look out for downstairs bedrooms with en suite. I didnt expect to find such an amazing shower room. The shower was so easy to use that standing or even sitting under it was a real joy. We were allowed to move the bedRead more away from the wall for easy access on both sides and add a small bedside table from the sitting room. Kristin was so kind in helping us feel comfortable. The whole building has been so tastefully renovated, I loved all the beautiful wooden doors and the colours of the walls. We had one grey day so were happy to have a chance to light the wood burning stove. Lots of interesting and beautiful places to visit and lovely places to eat. I would especially recommend the Meet and Greet the Alpacas certainly one of my highlights. We very much hope to return soon. Hide
