Fox Cottage offers a peaceful countryside setting with excellent access to some of North Yorkshire’s most characterful destinations. A well-regarded pub is also within easy reach. The nearby airfield adds a unique touch, with facilities for small aircraft—guests even have the option of flying in. The market town of Thirsk has a real energy, known for its independent shops, cafés and welcoming atmosphere. It is home to The World of James Herriot, reflecting the town’s strong connection to Yorkshire’s veterinary heritage. Throughout the year, the town hosts events including the well-known Yarnbombers displays, where colourful knitted artwork decorates the streets. Just 1.5 miles away, Monk Park Farm, winner of Small Farm Attraction of the Year 2026, offers a popular local day out. Slightly further afield, Northallerton (7 miles) provides another attractive market town setting, with its weekly market and a branch of Bettys Café Tea Rooms. Within easy reach, Harrogate (approximately 25 miles) offers a classic spa town experience, with its elegant architecture, the Stray parkland and the popular Valley Gardens. The surrounding area also offers unique local heritage, including the nearby village of Kilburn (5 miles), home of the renowned Robert “Mouseman” Thompson furniture workshops—with examples of his craftsmanship featured within the cottage itself. You will also find the iconic White Horse of Kilburn, one of Yorkshire’s most distinctive landmarks.

Bright accents, feature walls and antique styling are just some of the characterful features that make this beautiful Yorkshire house an instant home-from-home. If you’ve just returned to the property from a walk along the bridleway at the back of the cottage or perhaps a bike ride in the Howardian Hills AONB, you’ll be best heading inside via the extremely versatile boot room. Equipped with laundry facilities, this boot room offers a fantastic space to take coats off, leave walking boots behind and clean off muddy paws before continuing inside to get cosy and comfortable. The property is also equipped with a spacious garage where you can store any bikes or outdoor equipment when not in use. Once cleaned up and ready to relax, make a beeline for the living kitchen and put the kettle on. This farmhouse-inspired room is bright and beautiful with painted cabinets, cute country-style features and table where all of your meals can be enjoyed. There is an electric oven and hob on-hand ready for mealtimes and conveniently equipped with fridge freezer and additional under counter fridge. This same warm and welcoming atmosphere is continued in the lounge which is also on the ground floor, with traditional design features and a fireplace with a working wood burner, this room is simply perfect for whiling away a relaxing night together. Switch on the Smart TV and chose a family favourite film to see you through to bedtime. Along with a handy downstairs WC with charming dog-themed feature wallpaper. Upstairs, there are three well-presented bedrooms—a king-size, a double and a twin—all enjoying views over the garden. These are served by a brand new* bathroom and a separate modern shower room, offering both comfort and convenience.

Outside, the cottage benefits from a generous enclosed garden with lawn and established planting, offering a private and peaceful space to unwind. You’ll also find ample off-road parking. Surrounded by open farmland, the property enjoys direct access to a bridleway from the rear, ideal for walking and cycling straight from the door. A patio area with outdoor seating makes it perfect for alfresco dining during the warmer months.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay and couldn't have asked for a more relaxing holiday. From the moment we arrived, it truly felt like a home from home. The owners have clearly put so much thought, care and attention into every detail. The cottage is finished to a very high standard, spotlessly clean, exceptionally well equipped, and full of loveRead morely personal touches that made us feel instantly welcome. Everything has been considered to create a comfortable and peaceful stay. The garden was absolutely amazing and completely secure for our dogs, which meant we could truly relax knowing they were safe. The bed was incredibly comfortablewe genuinely slept better than we do at home! The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We loved our morning walks through the fields behind the cottage with the dogs, and the wildlife was a real highlight. We were lucky enough to have a resident owl nearby, saw lots of beautiful birds, and even spotted a hare twice just outside the property, along with sheep and cows in the surrounding fields. The local area is fantastic too. Thirsk has such a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and is well worth exploring. Thomas's Bakery is an absolute must, the local greengrocer sells excellent fresh produce, and Johnston's Butchers offers fantastic quality meattheir freshly made kebabs are perfect if you're planning a barbecue. We also enjoyed browsing the little market. The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. We visited Wensleydale and the Yorkshire Dales, both of which were stunning, and the viaduct is an absolute must-see with breathtaking scenery. We honestly couldn't fault our stay. If every holiday cottage were like this, every holiday would be perfect! Thank you so much to the lovely owners for creating such a special place. We would highly recommend this cottage and wouldn't hesitate to return. Hide

Fox cottage is well appointed, beautifully decorated with some delightful animal themed ornaments. One of the best welcome packs we've seen in any property. The star was Carole's home made Victoria sponge.
