This renovated 18th-century cottage, located on the outskirts of Amesbury, offers an ideal base for exploring both the local town and surrounding areas. Amesbury, known for the iconic prehistoric monument of Stonehenge (5 miles), has food shops, including a great local butcher, restaurants, and pubs. Further afield, the historic cathedral city of Salisbury, with its stunning cathedral dating back to 1220, is a great place to explore. Step through the gate, across the garden and into the porch, then down two steps into a large and well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room. From the kitchen, two steps up lead you into the inviting conservatory dining room, offering direct access to the garden. The living room reveals the cottage's true character, boasting original oak beams, an inglenook fireplace, and a wood burner. Relax on the comfy sofas, enjoy a night in front of the fire playing games, or catch up on your favourite shows on the Smart TV. The ground floor also features a convenient cloakroom. Upstairs, the broad landing leads to three charming bedrooms. The double bedroom showcases a very wonky original fireplace and crooked ceiling, with views of local 18th and 19th-century properties. The twin bedroom shares the same picturesque view, while the single bedroom, with its characterful sloping floor, offers views down the river Avon. Completing the first floor is a good-sized bathroom with a large shower and WC.

Outside, the secluded garden is perfect for unwinding, with a lawn and a paved area equipped with a table and chairs for outdoor dining or stargazing. Hay Cottage is a delightful period cottage but with all modern facilities. It is ideally placed for visits to a host of places of historical interest and occupies one of the best environments that we have ever experienced. Hay Cottage is one of the best holiday lets we have stayed in and we would definitely recommend it to anyone wishing for a stay in a lovely peaceful area that is also close to all the local amenities.

This cottage was absolutely gorgeous. Decor just wonderful. Ours was a gals weekend. The cottage sits at very end of South Mill Road, tucked away alongside River Avon. Hay Cottage is a lovely cosy home and well placed for nice walks along the river and an easy stroll into town. We were there for a wedding at Syrencote which was an easy 10min drive away. The cottage is very nicely appointed, spacious and well equipped with a nice garden. Nothing much need be said. Has everything you need. What it sez on the tin is what you get at this cottage. Only downer for our stay was the weather. In August and early September we had Oct/Nov weather. If we lived closer (500 mile round trip for us) we would be back in an instant.

Fabulous place to stay. A beautiful old mill house that has loads of character. Sits in a beautiful location right on the famous river Avon. If you love fishing there is plenty around you, coarse and fly, including a lovely stretch in the owners garden. If fishing isnt your thing then there is so much else to see along with some wonderful walks. We had a very enjoyable stay at Hay Cottage. The cottage is really lovely & very conveniently situated for visiting places in the surrounding area. Although we couldnt take full advantage, due to some wet weather, there is a secret garden adding an extra dimension to the cottage. We enjoyed some good days out visiting Salisbury, Winchester & BartonRead more-on-Sea. The river walk is great seeing all the wildlife, we especially liked the ducks & swans. We had a wonderful weeks holiday in this ancient water mill, helped by great weather. Its interior decor is very tasteful and the kitchen looks very modern with a good range of facilities. The ceilings are relatively low, so you do have to duck under door ways. We had a lovely stay at Hay Cottage, the house was well equipped with everything we could need and was spotless. The beds were super comfy and the house was so cosy especially with the log burner.
