Located on the coast between Great Yarmouth and Cromer, Bacton is a great location for a family holiday with easy access to countless quaint villages and towns around the coast, inland and within the Norfolk Broads National Park. Bacton offers a range of amenities including a pub, cafes, shops and fish and chip shop. For a superb day out hire a boat on the lock-free waterways of the Norfolk Broads which can be accessed at Stalham (7 miles). Around the coast, you will find the towns of Cromer (11 miles) and Sheringham (16 miles) offer something for everyone from an array of shops to traditional seaside amusements. The pier at Cromer is ever-popular and the sun rises and falls over the sea here in the summer months. The historic cathedral city of Norwich is also within easy reach being just 21 miles away where again you can hire boats and explore the wonders of a place that was once the capital city.

Back at Garth Cottage and a short walk through the pleasant garden to the front door brings you to the lounge, with two comfortable sofas, an inglenook feature fireplace (not functional) beamed ceiling and the original brick floor. Of course, there is a TV, a few books but best of all, a cosy, homely feel. In the summer, you can configure the front stable door fully or half open to keep the sea air coming through. The original braced door to the kitchen would have once been the exit to the back, but now leads to the cottage-style kitchen, dining area and shower / toilet. For the chef, there’s a gas hob, electric oven, range of cookware along with a fridge/freezer and microwave. A washing machine/dryer completes the whitegoods. A dining table for four sits in the corner next to the garden door. Heading up the steep Norfolk Winder staircase over the inglenook, you’ll find the two bedrooms - a double and a twin. This top floor is the footprint of the original 16th house: there is no landing and the two bedrooms are directly adjoining. The double room at the back has a large wardrobe with hanging and drawer storage and the single has a small chest of drawers.

Stepping outside, there is an enclosed garden and small patio area which is accessed via the backdoor and offers further table seating. There is on-street parking close to the property (subject to availability).

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 double room and 1 twin room (Jack and Jill style bedrooms)
  • 1 shower room with shower and WC
  • Electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine
  • TV in the lounge
  • Enclosed garden and patio area with table and chairs
  • On-street parking is available (subject to availability)
  • Pub, shop and beach less than a mile
  • No Wi-Fi
  • Please note that this is an unmolested Grade 2 listed 16th Century cottage: the stairs are steep and narrow, the ceiling height is lower than a modern house and the original brick floor is uneven. The cottage is unsuitable for people with mobility difficulties.

The cottage is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues or children and would benefit from a handrail on the very steep staircase. The property was very tired and in need of refreshing including bedding, curtains and sofas. The location was delightful with easy access to the sea but the lack of parking made access difficult.

My girlfriend and I ( and our 2 dogs ) have just come back from a very pleasant 4 night stay at Garth cottage which is literally 100 meters from the beach and there is a pub 5 mins walk either along the beach top or along the road. It is a very quaint quirky cottage with a very tight staircase up to the 2 bedrooms. The lounge is very comfortable Read morewith 2 sofas and the kitchen is well equipped Hide

I will forever remember this lovely little cottage as the place I proposed to my girlfriend on the stunning beach just behind the cottage. What a wonderful cottage, time in our lives and the clean sandy beaches are to die for....Oh and our dogs had the best time as well.

Even better than the photos and descriptions on the web site. Clean, Warm, Welcoming. Ideal for dog owners, near to extensive sandy beaches. Very hard to better the location or welcome. Brenda and Keith. West Midlands (14th September 2025)

Lovely place to stay. Close to the beach. No phone reception in any room or WiFi, which was what we needed. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues as stairs very tight, but fully understandable owing to property age.

Chose rhis cottage for its proximity to the beach as we were taking our 8 year old granddaughter who loves all things sea and sand so not disappointed. Very sweet looking cottage from the outside but very basic inside and very dark!! Needs updating and a bit of TLC. As others have mentioned very steep and narrow stairs
