You can visit the Castle Jail with its views over the surrounding countryside, or Queen Mary’s House and museum, or play golf at several local courses. Anglers can enjoy a spot of fishing on the famous Teviot or Tweed rivers close by that have good grayling, salmon and trout beats available by the day. There are good road links to many historical sites and towns such as Kelso, Melrose and Edinburgh (via Tweedbank on the Borders Railway) and a number of grand houses and castles locally many of whom offer guided tours, woodland walks, pretty gardens and sumptuous eateries.
