Whitby harbour is steeped in history and visitors can see where British explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. The harbour is a buzz of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting first choice of their catch. There's always something happening throughout the town , and festivals and fairs are held throughout the year including Whitby Goth Festival, Whitby Folk Week and the Whitby Regatta.

Clean and cozy. Very lively location. Picturesque - lovely to hear the sea lapping in the evening. Great dog beaches close by. No wifi but I was able to buy a week's worth from a well known provider who operates in Whitby. Two flights of very steep and narrow stairs - would not suit anyone not happy going up and down these multiple times a day. We had the most fabulous little break. This property has all its originality and quirkiness in keeping with its surroundings. The views are stunning too! We were extremely impressed at how the property held heat for its age and credit to the owner for keeping an older property so well serviced. Comfortable cottage in historicyard we felt we were in the middle of Whitby life. Parking needed arranging and stairs quite steep, but then, in such a quirky and historic cottage one would expect. Equipped to a high standard in all parts.
