What a brilliant family holiday! We stayed with our kids (4 & 7) and my parents for a few days. The cottages and grounds are so picturesque. Amazing countryside views, beautifully planted flower beds and rose garden around the property, and well maintained field for letting a dog/kids run about. We arrived after a long drive to some drizzle and Read morethe kids were able to immediately go and play on the climbing frame and trampoline and let off some steam. I think they would have been happy if they could have just done that from morning to night. The barn round the back was brilliant too for chilling out on the multiple sofas and playing table tennis or watching TV. Also a rotating disco ball, so my youngest had a dance off with a pal he made :) The cottage we were in was bright and charming with all the mod cons. We had a nice welcome note and some fresh eggs from the farm. You can also purchase champagne from the owners next door if you want to treat yourselves. Theres plenty to do in the surrounding area. Highlights for us were:- Arnside - coastal town good for a walk, views, shops and ice cream Levens Hall - amazing medieval castle, cafe, restaurant and topiary gardens with a hidden playpark Sizergh Castle - National Trust property with big grounds to explore and lots going on for kids Cinderbarrow miniature railway - cant beat a mini train ride Ambleside - very busy when it was hot, but got a boat trip in on lake Windermere and some ice cream Hide
