Hidden within the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, you will find the rural village of Forcett. The cottage is nestled on the edge of this 220 acre luscious Forcett Hall Estate. With the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the North Pennines within 25 miles, this is a fantastic base for walkers, cyclists and lovers of nature. For the budding historians of the group, Raby Castle and Egglestone Abbey are both within 10 miles, while the market towns of Barnard Castle (10 miles) and Richmond (8 miles) also boast plenty of history as well as rural charm.

Head up the drive towards the impressive grand palladium arch where the recently renovated cottage sits just behind. Park your car beside the cottage and walk up the path into this charming, stone-fronted property. Step into the welcoming country-style kitchen/diner, a peaceful and airy space that allows you to look out onto the greenery as you cook up a storm. After enjoying the chef’s work at the scenic dining table, stroll through to the cosy and sumptuous lounge where a Smart TV and soft furnishings invite quiet movie nights together. When day turns to night, choose from two delightful bedrooms, including a master king-size room with a gorgeous en-suite bathroom with a free-standing bath and shower, and a flexible twin room that can be converted to a super-king-size on request. Completing the interior is a well-appointed shower room.

Heading outside, you can bask in the sun whilst dining alfresco with a picnic on the lawn during the summer months or catch a breath of fresh air on a crisp winter's morning as you sip on a warm cup of tea. Be sure to bring along your walking boots, as this lovely home has many walks outside the estate or take a stroll up to Fawcett Hall and take in the position of this historic house.

Please check on comfortable temperature or building for potential visitors and that the gas bottles are adequately full as they ran out on the Wednesday of our visit. This was rectified the following day

We stayed in mid November when it was freezing cold and had 2 dogs with us. The cottage was clean, tidy and decorated well and warm enough with wood provided for open fire. Several things in the cottage need attention and improvement, and the garden access is misleading on the photographs and not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Beautiful property in great location let down by lack of cleaning before we arrived, cheap kitchen utensils (blunt knives, awful frying pan, and broken fridge shelves/door held together by tape). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at South Lodge. It is very tastefully furnished in contemporary chic style, both bright and airy, but also cosy to settle down in the evenings. We can throughly recommend the nearby Crosskeys Inn and also the stores and tearoom in Epplebey, neither of which are mentioned in the information pack.
