Avoiding school holidays and the associated rush, we stay in three or four self-catering cottages every year and invariably they meet or exceed our expectations, most are very good indeed. We select only highly rated (by the agent or preferably by fellow clients) properties. To be self-catering we usually bring five Gousto meals with us to prepare,Read more so we dont eat out every night, but this presumes availability of a useful set of utensils. We have learned to take a few useful items of our own - quality kitchen roll, a Ninja Foodi and a handful of items we could not presume would be available. In the best locations they often are. Disappointingly, the Sleek, fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to create your favourite meals with ease was not fully equipped. Some basic utensils were not present; a rolling pin, a vegetable peeler or set of scales for example. Furthermore, there were no mixing bowls, only one chopping board, and one cloudy measuring jug. On many occasions we have stayed in better equipped cottages where, helpfully, tin foil, parchment paper and cling film were also provided. We are not the first to highlight these issues and as most of the cottage is equipped from IKEA or Tesco the cost of provision would be minimal. One cannot help feeling that with the cottages and main property being advertised for sale, possibly investment in the properties is on hold? The Cottage was largely clean and tidy, although the Microwave was dirty from previous use. There was no plug for the kitchen sink (it seems to be lost down the overflow tube) or, alternatively, a washing up bowl - frustrating to say the least. The tea towels provided were laundered, but stained, we did not use them Others mentioned dog treats in the welcome pack, but they were not available to us. The pack was weak and while the traditional Devon cream tea is synonymous with the area, Scones and Conserve from Tesco are not unique to Devon especially when they are made in Yorkshire and Norfolk respectively! The beautifully finished shower room would benefit from a few minutes of competent attention; coat hooks on the door punching through the wall, a bolt hanging out of the wall supporting nothing? a loose toilet roll holder and loo seat. Add to this soap dispensers - with no liquid soap or shampoo. However, the shower is good. The wall mirror in the bedroom is good but would be so much better hung on the wall as my wife had to sit on the floor to dry her hair each morning. I dont believe I am the first person to mention this. The information sheet provided clearly referred to The Retreat rather than Feather and Stone, as it gave guidance to the use of the hot tub. The hot tub isnt available to Feather and Stone. A torch provided to use in the evening would be helpful especially as there are steep steps to the gate. They are particularly difficult to negotiate when wet, and the lane is also very dark. The claimed sea view is not evident and there appears to be just one parking place, not two as stated not that a cottage sleeping two would, ordinarily, need two spaces. With just 16 previous reviews in two years, and no published comments on four with less than perfect scores, one cannot help thinking others may have been somewhat non-plussed. It might be worth reviewing the advertising of this property and realistically not charge 1,100 for an out of season week. As we are returning to Devon in less than three weeks to another property we can only hope it is an improvement. Feedback? You did ask Hide

Lovely clean comfortable place to stay and within easy reach of some lovely beaches and places to visit. Extremely quiet and peaceful and we really enjoyed our stay. Good appliances and a lovely gift of scones, jam and cream was nice. I didnt notice a BBQ so check if you need it, also fire pit didnt look very nice to use. Just one point to makeRead more for anyone staying with dogs, the yard although the walls are about 6ft outside as it is raised they are only about 3ft on the inside so be careful if you have a dog thats likely to jump it. There is a nice walk just behind going over the fields at the side of the big barn and leads to a nice cliff walk. The pub down the road was ok but food was hit and miss, husbands food was nice but mine not so, just depends on what you order. Hide

Lovely comfortable bed. Kitchen well equipped. Couldn't get the TV to work in the bedroom. Central heating was blasting at times making the place too hot.

This is a lovely, comfortable and cosy cottage in a wonderful setting, with everything you need for a perfect stay. The bed is very big and so comfortable we slept really well, the view from the bedroom is beautiful.

Feather and stone . Ideally situated for touring the north Devon coast . A very comfortable place to rest and unwind with superb facilities and the biggest bed ever. I would recommend and rebook without hesitation.

Marvellous location between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe with coastal walks galore. Lee bay was the highlight for us but be sure to go at low tide and visit the Grampus pub which is charming and serves good food. The accommodation was excellent and superbly equipped. It even has a fast broadband connection and we could stream our favourite channels inRead more the evening. The patio is secure and so no worries for dog owners and is a real sun-trap with deckchairs supplied. We would definitely come again. Hide

We absolutely loved our stay at Chapel Barn!. We had been let down by a previously booked cottage, & we honestly couldn't have chosen a better alternative!. The location was peaceful, lots of views & wildlife all around us. The cottage is perfect, clean, bright, modern & very comfortable. Nice quality cottage. Take your own fizz if it's a special occasion, there was none on arrival for my wife's birthday retirement break. Which they knew about. The drive is quite steep and acute, my bm 6 series front lip and exhausts caught the concrete. Take a sherpa if you're walking to the Grampus Inn. Better still drive it's a great boozer. RecoRead moremmend the Depoyt for food and their other 3 outlets, Sawmill fab,The Thatch too in royde. Nice bed and linen. Hide

The cottage is fabulous, very light and airy. very well equipped and very well decorated. the bed is wonderful and so comfy. It is a very relaxing place to be. The photograph on the website did show a nice table and chairs outside, however I assume these had been put away for the winter?
