Dawlish is a traditional seaside town, home to the famous black swans. Just a short drive away is Dawlish Warren with a sandy beach, built on a spit of sand with the Exe estuary on one side and the sea on the other with golden sands. Keen walkers will enjoy the Exe Estuary Trail, leading to Exmouth via Cockwood with its harbourside pubs, Powderham Castle, the bustling city of Exeter and the quaint old port of Topsham. Regular trains also follow this route, said to be one of the most beautiful rail journeys, and for boat lovers, there is a ferry from nearby Starcross to Exmouth.
