Property code: OC-89620

This is a substantial period property which has just been totally refurbished whilst retaining its original features and for the first time in over 200 years is available to let as a holiday destination. The house is adorned with a date-plaque of 1878. Both the name and the date are misleading as the house has a much earlier history as it used to be a coaching inn known as ‘The Unicorn Inn’ dating back in licencing records to at least 1822.

This superb period property with accommodation over three floors offers the perfect family getaway, providing comfort and quality for larger groups as well as having a good sized, privately enclosed garden which is a rarity in Appledore. You will be less than 350 metres from the quayside with an array of excellent pubs, restaurants, shops, and cafes whilst further hidden gems can be found through a myriad of narrow streets. Enjoy the Maritime Museum which showcases the village and its maritime heritage. Across the river is Instow which can be reached via the seasonal passenger ferry or a 5-mile drive. Here you’ll find sand dunes, an estuary beach, pubs, plus a lovely deli/café. The port town of Bideford is just 2 miles away with a range of independent shops and eateries. Westward Ho! (2 miles) offers a sandy beach, tidal pool, amusements and eclectic cafes and restaurants. Theme parks The BIG Sheep and The Milky Way are within 11 miles.

Stepping into this substantial house and into the entrance hall, a comfortable and stylish lounge can be found on your left with leather Chesterfield corner sofa and chairs, feature fireplace with gas fire, Smart TV with sound bar and DVD player. To your right is the dining room / snug, accessed via the kitchen along a period hall. The dining room / snug features a fireplace with open fire, dining table, corner sofa and leather chair, complete with a smart tv and soundbar. The dining room / snug offers modern open plan kitchen and dining. The kitchen is superbly fitted and well-equipped. An island features a fridge and breakfast bar seating. A Smart TV provides a great spot for morning coffee or a quick snack. The kitchen has a gas fired traditional Aga which is cosy in the winter months. The new kitchen also features a double oven, integrated microwave and induction hob if preferred in the summer months however, the Aga is your preference, it can be prepared on request during the summer. Adjacent to the kitchen area is a utility room which contains and American fridge freezer, tumble dryer and has a perfect space for an undercounter dog basket. A separate WC is off the utility room where you will find the washing machine. Heading upstairs to the first floor there are 4 bedrooms: a super-king-size with en-suite shower room, another super-king-size with smart TV (which can be made up as a twin on request at time of booking), a double with smart TV and a single. The family bathroom completes the first floor. Take the stairs to the second floor where you can find a super-king-size in the eaves of the building with Velux windows allowing you to enjoy the starry nights in the evening. This bedroom also benefits from a Smart TV and an en-suite shower room.

The garden is accessed from the kitchen; steps lead up to an enclosed walled lawned garden with lighting, garden furniture, shed, patio heater and charcoal BBQ. A dog wash Belfast sink and shower featuring hot and cold water will allow you to wash your muddy dog paws or wet suits after a long walk or a great day at the beach.
Anchor Park and play area is less than 50 steps from the property.

Prospect House was a fantastic property and the locations was perfect. The house itself is set over a number of floors but the house was very well decorated and equipped with everything you would need for a family stay.

Excellent property and facilities in a delightful village centre location. Plus Westward Ho, for example, only nine minutes drive away. One tip, make sure you display your car park ticket scrupulously - the council take no prisoners!!

This is a lovely house in a great location in Appledore. The rooms are spacious. We arrived as a family of 8 to celebrate my 70th birthday and it was ideal. After the weekend it was just my husband and I. The building is very old and characterful but it has been renovated in a modern functional way retaining the character.

The house is opposite Pitt Hill and our sat nav took us further up the hill. The car park on Odun Rd is very handy once you've unloaded. Once inside the house we were very impressed with the layout and the beautiful decor and paintings. The kitchen is very well equipped. Having two lounges meant we could spread out happily.

Brilliant accommodation. Nine of us stayed and we had ample room. All areas were in great condition, and the house had been decorated to a high standard and all the kitchen utensils and equipment were first class. Excellent in all areas.
