Middle Mayfield lies on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border and sits on the southern tip of the Peak District. The village itself is surrounded by stunning countryside and Georgian architecture, meaning you can enjoy rural rambles through rich pastures and riverside meadows, and along ancient tracks that head back even further in time. Dine out at some of the local pubs, a stylish gastropub in Ellastone is only 2.5 miles away. The steppingstones of Dovedale on the river Dove with its stunning views of Thorpe Cloud is just 6 miles away, close by is the reservoir Carsington Water (9 miles), perfect for birdwatching, water sports, walking and cycling around its eight-mile perimeter. Visit the Tissington, High Peak and Manifold trails (3 miles, 12 miles and 16 miles respectively), Chatsworth House Gardens (23 miles) and the historic town of Bakewell (20 miles). For a fun-filled day, head to Alton Towers theme park (6 miles).

Enter the property via the stone porch, a handy area for muddy wellies and wet dogs. Step inside and a wonderful parlour with a decorative large open inglenook fireplace welcomes you with cosy woodburner, and a table sits in front with a comfortable armchair. Step down to the large country-style kitchen with a large breakfast table in the centre. Prepare large celebratory dinners on the range-style cooker with gas hob and electric oven. There is a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave included. For more formal dinners, settle at the large dining table within the characterful dining room featuring Jacobean panelled walls and a second woodburner and a small hidden reading nook, should you want a quiet spot to read after dinner. The period features continue into the drawing room, which is furnished with cosy leather sofas and includes a Smart TV - perfect for some downtime at the end of the day. There is a secret reading room downstairs also for those that like a quiet spot. When sleep calls, make your way up one of the two staircases (please note some of the steps in the building are narrow and uneven) and find your bedroom, with the choice of a single room, a super-king four-poster bed, a king-size, another two super-king-size zip-and-link beds (can be twins on request) - one of which has an additional single bed with a guest pull out trundle, which would be ideal for a family room or all the children in one room! Begin your morning with a refreshing start in one of the three bathrooms, on the ground floor is a large family bathroom with a shower over a freestanding bath and WC. Upstairs there is a bathroom with another free standing bath with shower over and WC and another bathroom with walk-in shower and WC.

Outside is a generous lawn garden where children and their furry friends may potter about to their heart's content. In the evening, sizzle up a BBQ and dine alfresco on the outdoor dining table and chairs. There is off-street parking for 3-4 cars.

We loved staying in this house. It is packed full of character and history, whist also being comfortable and full of everything we needed. Great location for some lovely walks and the large dinning room table was fabulous for evening meals. We would definitely reccomend this house.

The Old Hall is a beautiful building which has been respectfully restored. The kitchen has all the mod cons you need with ample crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils, the bathrooms are modern, the bedrooms are warm with incredibly comfortable beds. All the rooms are spotlessly clean and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. The children loved sittiRead moreng in the reading room. Ideal for a large family gathering. The owner and cleaner were very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend. Hide

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old Hall. An amazing property, steeped in history. Our son loved the kitchen which was well appointed and had a useful size table for the seven of us to sit at. We also used the main dining room as well. Plenty of place mats and coasters to protect both tables. The lounge had very comfortable seating and an amazingRead more ceiling. The beds were very comfortable too. We thoughly enjoyed the countyside walks and a few bike rides to Ashbourne. Hide
