With a peaceful hamlet location, the house sits around 1 mile from the friendly village of Talybont-on-Usk which has a useful village shop and several pubs. The Taff Trail cycle route and the Henry Vaughan Trail both run along the valley behind the cottage, and the picturesque Talybont Reservoir and its dramatic dam are a mile away. Family-friendly walks through woodland and alongside the pretty Blaen-y-Glyn waterfalls are 5 miles down the road. Don’t miss a trip to the Brecon Mountain Railway a scenic 10-mile drive over the mountains, especially if you have young train enthusiasts in the family.

The traditional cottage has a rich history going back 200 years; it’s still owned by descendants of the original residents. The cosy beamed living area has a dining table for six, and plenty of sofa space for the whole family to snuggle up in front of the open fire. Turn on the TV or take advantage of the selection of books and games. Leading from the lounge is the kitchen, fully equipped with everything a family needs, including that all-important washing machine and tumble dryer, plus a dishwasher. A downstairs cloakroom with a WC and sink is a useful addition. Head up the very steep original stone stairs to the three bedrooms on the first floor. The king-size, twin and bunk bedroom, should accommodate most family groups. Also, on the first floor is the family bathroom, with a shower over the bath.

Outside, the mature garden is bordered by beautiful original dry-stone walls and surrounded by wild countryside. Enjoy your morning coffee at the table in the sunshine, as the wildlife wakes up around you, or sit back at the end of a busy day with a drink as the sun goes down.

Beautiful old cottage in a great location. The garden is a lovely place to sit. Small but well equipped kitchen. Useful downstairs WC. 3 good sized bedrooms. Stairs not suitable for small children or those not too steady on their feet.

We had a great stay at Fernlea cottage the surrounding views were amazing. The drive past the reservoirs and waterfalls then through the mountains was breathtaking. Fernlea had everything we needed plus the large enclosed garden for our young dog.

The cottage was well equipped and in a fantastic position to use as a base. We loved how everything was accessible within 30 mins or so. The garden was very quiet and quaint keep topping up the feeders and theres an array of birds that come to feed which we really enjoyed in the early morning and evenings. The walk to Talybont-on-Usk on the Read moreTaff Trail is picturesque with two pubs that both have great beers gardens adjacent to the canal and a well stocked shop. I would recommend the cottage to friends and family but parking was an issue. Hide

Nice place & well equipped. The spiral stairs would be a challenge for the elderly, but not an issue. Good internet connectivity & very comfy (except for the double bed).

After many years, I returned to Fernlea for a walking holiday in Wales. The cottage is comfortable and garden views are lovely. The road outside does seem a lot busier and the parking is slightly awkward given that people were parking in the lay-by side on which meant the car was sticking out a bit. With the large lumber Lorries going up and down, Read moreI was a bit concerned. The cottage is in a good location and nice to be able to enjoy a log fire after a soggy day. Hide

It's a lovely, clean, well equipped, comfortable cottage. So peaceful and relaxing. Walkign stright form teh front door onto the various trails was fabulous. A bit further out of Talybont-upon-Usk then envisaged, which meant access to the local shops and pubs was a 30 minute walk away. It's beautiful part of the country and we love coming to visit.
