Formerly part of the Buckland Hall Estate, this charming cottage offers stunning views over the secluded Buckland parklands, stretching out toward the River Usk. The property has been beautifully renovated to an exceptional standard, making it an ideal retreat for friends or families seeking tranquility. With its spacious veranda and scenic vistas from many rooms, it’s the perfect place to unwind. The quaint village of Talybont-on-Usk, just 3 miles away, features picturesque rivers, a canal, a reservoir, and several local amenities including pubs, a restaurant, a shop, and an array of arts and crafts to explore.

Step inside through a welcoming lobby, adorned with period furniture and a handy boot storage area. Framed local maps grace the walls, providing an excellent guide for planning your adventures. The open-plan kitchen and dining area is a highlight of the cottage, designed in a charming country-cottage style with solid wood accents and a modern kitchen complete with a central island. It’s a perfect space for socializing and enjoying meals together, equipped with everything needed to prepare delicious meals, including an electric oven, a five-ring hob, and a dining table that comfortably seats eight. Adjacent is a cozy seating area with plush sofas offering lovely views of the surrounding countryside. For relaxation, there’s a separate lounge featuring a large seven-seater sofa, an additional chair, a Smart TV, and a wood burner for those snug, quiet evenings. A selection of board games and books is also available, perfect for winding down or indulging in some friendly competition.

The cottage has four bedrooms, each with its own unique charm. On the ground floor, there’s a twin bedroom that can be arranged as a double - by arrangement. Upstairs, you’ll find three more bedrooms, each combining classic and contemporary styles for a homely yet elegant feel. The master bedroom boasts a super-king-size bed, while another super-king-size room features a low doorway leading to a nursery with two cots. The final bedroom, with bunk beds, is designed for children. Two bathrooms, one on each floor, add convenience and comfort to the accommodation.

Outside, the cottage continues to impress. The front veranda, complete with a bench, patio table, and chairs, offers breathtaking views, making it an ideal spot to enjoy warm days and starry nights. To the side of the property, a quirky woodland garden awaits, featuring a tree swing, picnic bench, and a treehouse—a magical area perfect for both children and adults. Ample private parking is also available.

JRR Tolkein fans may be interested to know of Buckland Cottage's links where Tolkien was thought to have stayed in nearby Talybont-on-Usk and Frodo was born in Buckland and returned there at the end of the book. But Tolkien didn’t just use the name, Buckland can clearly be seen on maps of the Shire (with Crickhollow to the east of it) and the map’s topography is very similar to that of the Buckland Estate. When they made the film, the researchers visited the Buckland Estate with great interest and Tolkien's granddaughter has stayed at Buckland Cottage.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming and well-equipped cottage. The location was perfect, with stunning views and a fascinating history both of the area and the cottage itself. We especially appreciated instructions for nearby walks, and the short drive to many of the Brecon Beacons most popular trails. The cottage was stocked with books, gamesRead more, and even a treehouse, which the kids absolutely loved. Everything made for a relaxing and memorable stay, and we would be delighted to return. A lovely, well equipped cottage in a beautiful location. Plenty of walks straight from the door but also only a 20 minute drive to the heart of the Brecon Beacons and Pen y fan. Beautiful views. The kids loved the tree house. surprisingly good mobile signal for somewhere that feels quite remote.
