Gilwern is a sweet village with pubs, shops and a picturesque canal all within walking distance. It sits on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and Blaenavon World Heritage site and you can enjoy country walks right from your doorstep or perhaps take a visit to the historic town of Abergavenny full of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. Visit nearby galleries, museums, castles and vineyard or take a trip on a narrow boat which you can see passing by at the bottom of the garden! Other attractions in the area include Blaenavon Iron Works, The Big Pit or star gazing at the Brecon Beacons Visitor Centre or why not try horse riding, golf, climbing and kayaking on the Usk and Wye.

Enter through the stable door into the hallway which leads straight into the well-equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Located off the hallway is the master bedroom which is light and airy and has a super-king-size zip-and-link bed (which can be made up as a twin on request). There is a bathroom with shower and WC. Head from the kitchen to the comfortable, traditionally furnished lounge where you can relax on the sofa in front of the wood burner effect electric fire and watch the Smart TV or a movie on the DVD and head out to the garden through the French doors.

Outside there is an enclosed covered veranda, with hot tub, gas BBQ and garden furniture looking out to the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Relax  in the hot tub with the most amazing view  and unwind whatever the weather. Bring a BBQ and the owners are happy for you to use it within the extensive grounds. Being situated in a Dark Skies Area, the veranda is perfect for star gazing on a clear night! Beyond this are large shared grounds that lead all the way down to the canal. Private off-road parking and secure covered area for bikes available. There is an exercise paddock available for dogs.

The cottage is situated in a lovely location, with access to an enclosed paddock within a short walk. Let you dog run free, while you look at the plants, meet the horses or watch the sheep. A nest of Wrens was in situ on the balcony. The fledglings popped out of the nest while we were there. The mum was able to round the chicks up and continue to care for them. We have stayed at Little Orchard Retreat many times and have already booked next year and later this year. A beautiful location and lovely cottage. Pippa is very friendly and we received a very warm welcome. The secure paddock is great for the dogs to run around in. We and our dog enjoyed staying at the cottage, it was comfortable and had everything we needed. Lovely view from the lounge. The location was ideal with plenty of places to walk to from the cottage, giving the car a break!

Thank you Pippa (and Boswell) for your warm welcome and hospitality on our second visit to your lovely and well equipped cottage. It had everything we needed. The paddock area was great for Lola to run around in. We loved sitting in the beautiful gardens with a glass of wine in the late afternoon sunshine while listening to the birds. Wow! What a gem. We had a lovely friendly welcome from Pippa. We were shown around the extensive grounds, including the paddock where dogs can safely run free. A lovely stay in a fantastic location. So many nice walks and places to see nearby. The hot tub on the balcony overlooking Sugerloaf was a particular treat.

What a lovely place, view over to sugarloaf mountain whilst sitting in the hot tub. The owner is very pleasant and helpful, lovely grounds to walk around with the dog, nice walks alongside the canal, and a welcome pint at the towpath inn.

We've just spent a week at Pippas cottage over the newyear. Poppa is a lovely host. The cottage a delight. The dogs absolutely loved the paddock. The location was perfect for us and our two springers. Close to Sugar loaf mountain and right on the canal tow path and straight into the village. We stayed here in October, loved it so much we came back in December! Our dogs love it as much as we do, they knew instantly where they were and enjoyed sniffing around and making themselves at home. We would highly recommend this cottage as a relaxing break in the country. Plenty of walks to take, and a very nice pub on the canal, about 100mtrs walk. Pippa was a lovely host.
