Set within a horseshoe-shaped curve of the River Lune, within the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, this exceptional retreat enjoys a rare sense of privacy within an exclusive, gated enclave reached only by bridge. Encircled by serene woodland, it feels blissfully removed from everyday life, though conveniently positioned just 5 miles from the M6. Stroll along the footpaths through the shared grounds, or pause by the river for a picnic, a wild swim or some fishing. Further afield, the dramatic landscapes of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are within a 30-mile drive, or you could enjoy traditional seaside fun at Morecambe, around 7 miles away. For bars, restaurants, shops and cultural attractions, the university city of Lancaster is just 5 miles from your door.

Designed for superlative comfort and style, the two-storey stone house is part of a prestigious Victorian estate built for the then Mayor of Lancaster. The property is furnished to a high level throughout, creating an environment where you can relax, unwind and drink in the gorgeous river views, or enjoy the superb selection of entertainment facilities provided. Step through the small entrance vestibule into a light-filled lounge, with beautiful artwork and lighting, comfortable seating and a wood burner. This is the perfect space in which to unwind after a day exploring the area, perhaps with a movie on the Smart TV or, if you’re feeling more energetic, making use of the array of games provided, which includes a rotating table with pool, foosball and air hockey, plus board games and an arcade machine. Four steps lead you up to the kitchen, in which top-of-the-range appliances include an integrated coffee machine, warming tray, standard oven and steam oven. This room also features a generous dining table for six people and another Smart TV. From here, you can access a small work area, a laundry room, and a handy WC. Take the stairs up to the landing and stroll through to the glamorous, king-size bedroom, which has a four-poster bed, a built-in wardrobe, a small seating area and an en-suite shower room. Six further steps from the landing take you to the two inviting twin bedrooms, which also have ample storage and seating areas, and share a bathroom with a shower over the bath.

Your private decked area outside is perfect for relishing the sunshine on a warm day, perhaps accompanied by a drink served at the tiki bar. Make use of the built-in BBQ and grill something tasty bought from a local farm shop, sink into one of the swing seats or soak for hours in the hot tub, enjoying the stars in the night sky. You’ll also have access to the extensive shared grounds of the estate, with riverside and woodland walks, fishing and a pebbly ‘beach’. Bike hire is available on-site, so you can get around easily, but there is also private parking for two cars.
