A beautifully created barn cottage, this Shropshire retreat is ideal for couples. Set in the leafy rural grounds of a small holding at Wheat Common, this property is located just 3 miles from Ludlow. Ludlow is a pretty market town and an architectural gem, also buzzing throughout the year with events and festivals, celebrating arts, crafts and good food with the famous Ludlow Food and Drink Festival. There is also Ludlow Castle to spend the day exploring, plus Stokesay Castle a further 8 miles down the road. Strike out on foot to discover countryside. Mortimer Forest, which straddles Shropshire and Herefordshire, is just 2 miles away or spend an afternoon at the National Trust's Berrington Hall, with its mansion and parkland. The National Trust's Croft Castle and Parkland, 6.5 miles away, also offers beautiful gardens and acres of grounds to explore. Join the 200-mile Shropshire Way near Ludlow and follow it for a spell through rolling hills and wooded valleys.

Make your way into the barn, which sits within attractive grounds. The owners also live on the small holding, but guests are assured their privacy. Let yourselves in via the main door, finding space for your coats, shoes and walking boots, then wander on inside to discover easy-living, studio-style accommodation all on one level. Still featuring original beams, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner/bedroom is light and airy, with a distinctly modern feel. Pause to take in the views through the large window before stoking up the wood burner and settling yourselves on the comfortable, stylish, striped sofa. Find a film or your favourite show on the Smart TV, then prepare a celebratory meal together and dine beside the window against the picturesque backdrop. Your sumptuous double bed is towards the back of the space, where it enjoys soft lighting. Refresh yourselves in the chic shower room at the start or end of every exciting day away.

Have breakfast and coffee outside on summer mornings as you take in your rural surroundings. Watch for squirrels and listen to the birds in the trees over tea and cake out here later too. At the end of the garden discover a view over the Clee Hill on a clear day. There is off-road parking for two cars with the barn.

A lovely property in a quiet setting - just birdsong. It has everything that we wish for in a holiday cottage. It is within easy reach of most of Shropshire and Hereford. We couldn't stay away from Ludlow..what a stunning town. Shrewsbury, if in need of retail therapy, has so many shops..both independent and high street names..and eating places. ThRead moree week here just flew. Thank you Julie. We hope to return. Carol and Peter. Hide
