  • Set on a historic Cornish estate, right on the water and with breathtaking views of the River Tamar
  • Beautifully styled with flexible bedrooms and a delightful private garden
Property code: OC-Q36012

This remarkable, dog-friendly cottage has two flexible bedrooms, making it an ideal choice for couples, friends or small families looking to explore this unspoilt corner of south-east Cornwall. Set within the idyllic Pentillie Castle estate, recognisable to fans of Beyond Paradise as the riverside home of Anne (Barbara Flynn), Martha (Sally Bretton) and Humphrey (Kris Marshall), it sits within the Tamar Valley National Landscape, surrounded by beautiful countryside. If you enjoy touring historic houses, you’re within 16 miles of two of the National Trust’s most impressive properties, Cotehele and Antony, while Port Eliot House and Gardens is only 9 miles away. For days by the sea, numerous stretches of golden sand lie within around 20 miles, including Downderry, Whitsand Bay and Cawsand, while the Rame Peninsula offers sweeping views from Rame Head. Beyond the estate, Cornwall’s coastal paths, Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor are all within easy reach.

Dating back to 1854, the stone cottage combines a remarkable setting with a welcoming interior, making it easy to see why it was chosen as a filming location. Stepping into the well equipped country kitchen, the first thing you’ll notice is the wonderful outlook over the water; it’s fully equipped for relaxed and efficient holiday cooking. The open plan dining/lounge area features large bay windows and the added comfort of a wood burner for cooler evenings, while a second cosy lounge is perfect for settling in with a book, enjoying river views, or unwinding watching the Smart TV. Upstairs, the cottage sleeps four in two inviting bedrooms overlooking the river, one super-king-size and one king-size, with one en-suite bathroom and the other served by a separate shower room. Both rooms have zip-and-link beds so they can be arranged as 3' and 2'9" twin beds on request.

Outside, the nearby river provides a peaceful backdrop when sitting in the enclosed gardens, where cinematic views and the charming Bathing Hut create an idyllic spot for morning coffee. Guests are welcome to explore the network of walks through the estate’s 55 acres of Repton-designed woodland gardens, including Chauffeurs Walk, Lime Avenue and Wisteria Walk. Ample parking is provided on the Quey across from the cottage.

The cottage is beautiful and in a wonderful location. It is extremely well equipped and provides for every comfort. Situated on the banks of the Tamar we watched the changes as the tide ebbed and flowed and the wonderful bird life that lives on and around the river. Having access to almost all areas of the Pentillie estate enabled us to take a difRead moreferent walk every day without leaving the estate although we did also explore the surrounding areas. We found most places to be dog friendly but be sure to check before you head out with your dog, beaches particularly. Hide
