The historic city of Durham, with its magnificent cathedral and excellent shopping, is only twelve miles away. The North Pennines provide a beautiful backdrop of heather moors, rugged peatlands, and beautiful meadows, making this an ideal destination for walkers and cyclists. This cosy property accommodates two people and welcomes up to two dogs, perfect for couples seeking a romantic countryside retreat. The surrounding farmland offers 100 acres to explore, including a nature trail, riverside paths, and even an ancient monument with a mediaeval moat.

This delightful single-floor cottage features a comfortable open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, creating a welcoming space to relax and unwind. The snug lounge area includes a Smart TV for entertainment, while the well-equipped kitchen provides all you need for preparing your own meals, including an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, and microwave. The cottage was lovely, felt homely and was really clean. Plenty of equipment in the kitchen with a good sized fridge freezer. It was cold and wet when we were there but the cottage was lovely and warm. Wouldnt hesitate to book again if visiting that area again.

The fact that this was my second visit in a month says it all really. On my first visit I only booked three nights, this time I booked a week. We have just spent a fantastic few days at Heron Cottage to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary, The cottage is in a really quiet location with only the sound of the burn running at the side of it - sheer tranquility. There is everything inside the cottage that you need for a comfortable stay, and the place is very clean. Im really disappointed that I booked Heron Cottage for three nights. I should have booked for longer! What a delightful cottage. It was warm, clean and well equipped with everything needed to self-cater. I dont know how the owners manage to provide such a lovely place at the price point. Very disappointed with our stay at this property. The pictures do not reflect the current state of the place which is in need of serious TLC and upgrade. Damaged, aging and stained furniture and fittings and the whole property would benefit from a refurbishment .

Heron is a beautiful barn conversion set in an idyllic location; perfectly positioned for exploring the Durham Dales. We woke to the sound of the burn every morning and were lucky to see lots of wildlife. A great stay!

Had a lovely, relaxing mid week stay. Very happy with the clean, comfortable and well equipped cottage. Beautiful well cared for surroundings with lots of walks. Would definitely recommend for a quiet, relaxing break.

It was a great location in Weardale to explore and the on site cafe was an added bonus. Heron cottage was warm and comfortable really a home from home experience, everything you would need for cooking was there if thats what you wanted.

Heron Cottage - Great location & easy to find, lovely cottage for the 2 of us and our 2 GSD, walking trail good for our senior dogs. Cottage warm with constant hot water, great internet connection, very peaceful we had a brilliant stay.

We loved our week in Heron cottage. It was the perfect retreat away from fireworks at home. The cafe is superb, the staff so cheerful and friendly and all cakes and bread baked onsite. No end of walks around the farm and all visitors and dogs' needs are thoughtfully catered for.
