From the doorstep, follow the waterside path around Grasmere Lake for an easy loop, or tackle the Fairfield Horseshoe (3 miles) for a full-day hike with sweeping fell vistas. In the village centre, step into Wordsworth's former home of Dove Cottage, then pick up a warm parcel from the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop. Forming one of four unique properties hidden down a private track, this light-filled Lakeland cottage welcomes you with its stone exterior and breathtaking surrounding scenery. Step inside and immediately notice how light and airy the rooms are thanks to the many windows and skylights. Combined with modern comforts, the original features include exposed ceiling beams, setting the scene for a characterful stay. When it's time to call it a night, climb the stairs to the upper floor and choose from two whitewashed bedrooms: a master double with an en-suite shower room, and a cosy twin which makes use of the family bathroom.

We loved this quirky cottage because of its peaceful position, yet only a few minutes into the centre of Grasmere . We would give the stunning view out of the window a 5 star rating but would struggle to give the rest of the accommodation more than a 4 star rating ( if that ! ) . Yes it has an en-suite bathroom and central heating but the lounge Read moreand kitchen are very small . The freezer is only a very small compartment at the top of the fridge not big enough to store much frozen food . And I think the description stating the cottage overlooks the river Rothay is a bit mis- leading . We have stayed here before so we knew what to expect. Having said this we would stay at this property again as its sp peaceful and a quick pleasant stroll into the centre of Grasmere. Hide

We really enjoyed our stay. Everything we needed for a short break in the lake district. Kitchen was well stocked, could have easily cooked full meals if required. Outdoor area for muddy boots and plenty of coat hooks always useful. Nice selection of games, tv, comfy sofa and blankets. Lovely views and great location for wandering around Grasmere oRead morer walking around the area. Hide
